I bought this hoping it would be the best value 2-9 stop VND on the market. I was wrong.Pros:- 2-9 stop ND range in one filter.- Very smart slim-profile case.- Stickers included for you to label the compartments inside the case.- Packaged up to survive a nuclear strike.- Relatively cheap compared to other VND kits.- Build quality of filters.- Aesthetic.Cons:- Very strange design. The UV filter screws onto your lens. Then the adapter locks onto the UV filter and you screw this down using the large screw that sticks out (this isn’t used for changing the strength of the ND as with other VNDs). The VND part magnetises to the adapter. Then the protective cap magnetises to the VND.- Very heavy.- Adapter makes it bulky.- Very strong green / warm tint from VND.- The moving part of the VND doesn’t have a screw or something that sticks out to make it easier to change the strength of the ND.- Leaflet with QR code for instructions / warranty takes you to a directory. Using the search function I wasn’t able to find the actual product - perhaps it’ll be added later on.- (A very minor peeve) unboxing the filter was quite awkward with a lot of heavy and stiff cardboard in a way which was is surprising when compared to some of Smallrig’s other products that come elegantly packaged.- The UV filter seems redundant since it is sandwiched in between your lens and the VND that’ll act as the outer protective layer when using your camera.- The magnets on the protective cap are quite weak - the cap will get pulled off if you place your camera in a backpack.- Unsure what the point of the step up from 82mm to 95mm is for…Conclusion:Looks very appealing in the marketing material but it has too many awkward quirks to keep. All these companies have a long way to go before they figure out an aesthetic magnetic-style design that actually functions properly.
