Absolutely love this cage! It fits perfectly on my Nikon z8 and holds an attached magic arm with a Insta360 X4 flawlessly. It’s built well and I have no doubt will last over the long haul. I’ve recently become a huge fan of small rig products and this cage is another example of the quality products they produce.

I own a number of SmallRig products and when I purchased my Z8 the cage kit was the first accessory I ordered. The quality of the product is just what I expected. First class all the way. This is an excellent addition when it comes to operating the Z8 in special conditions. I love the handle because it allows me to get closer to objects near the ground. The ability to attach other accessories where needed is also a big plus. If you are looking for a solid add-on to compliment your Z8, I recommend this product.

Riassunto: Ho acquistato questo cage per la Z8 e mi trovo molto bene ad utilizzarlo. Perfetto.Inizio con l'unica pecca: montarlo e smontarlo spesso vi danneggerà la camera a livello estetico che lo vogliate o meno. C'è sempre quel graffietto che ogni cage causa dato i frequenti montaggi e smontaggi.La stessa cosa che vale per una piastra montata sotto la camera.Detto questo il cage è perfetto, maniglia top. Per fare il vostro rig è la cosa migliore che possiate acquistare e bello che ci siano anche la brugola e il tool per la piastra attaccati al cage magneticamente. Non vi ritroverete mai senza a dover cercare una monetina per poter fissare il tutto.Il cage è resistente e è molto bello anche la possibilità di attaccare una parte del cage che protegge i vostri cavi facendoli rimanere fermi in modo da proteggere anche le porte della camera.Da qui potete partire per montare tutto il vostro rig su una macchina come Z8 che per video è ottima.

Dislikes: battery door access is inconvenient. It should be easier to get to. Also smallrig switched from the near-universal hexkey/hex-head bolt attachment to the camera body to a slot head bolt.I much prefer small rig’s use of hex head bolt snd included hex key that the implemented with th Z7 bracket.

I've used SmallRig products for the past couple years and have always been satisfied with the quality. This camera cage follows suit. It is durable, fits the camera like a glove, and feels great in your hand. A couple features I really like about this one is the cable clamp and top handle that come with the kit. The handle makes is very convenient for smooth shooting and getting low to the ground, and the cable clamp is very handy for keeping your cables strealined when you have multiple accessories on your rig.There is also a tool included to assist with installation, which magneticaly attaches to the cage so you always have it with you. There are 2 cold shoe brackets on the top, which is nice for both a light and mic, and there are numerous 1/4 & 3/8 holes to give you a variety of ways to set up your rig, or expand it.Very happy with this cage and highly recommend.

I like SmallRig stuff generally, so I did have some fairly high expectations with this but I'm happy to report that they were all matched. This is really well engineered and some serious care has gone into some of the small design details. Things like the magnetic tools that slip into the side of the cage and handle really set this off and make it so convenient as an all in one solution. The cage itself is strong and fits the camera perfectly with really minute tolerances, so that once it's actually on it barely effects the cameras original ergonomics or footprint. The cable clamp is super handy and the handle itself is rock solid.Obviously the cage is going to add some weight to your setup, but then you have all the added versatility of adding extra handles etc. so that sort of compensates and the extra weight isn't so over the top anyway, probably it depends more on what you add to your setup rather than the actual cage itself. I recommend this to anyone with a Z8 whose looking for more versatility in their setup. I just do pretty basic vlogs and stuff to be honest and this just makes doing that easier. I don't feel like I'm having to juggle gear all over the place, everything is nice and contained in a solid little setup that's pretty well portable. For someone who's a bit more professional than me, a wedding photographer or something like that, a cage is pretty much essential I'd have thought and this SmallRIg one is really high quality. It makes carting a setup around very easy and it's pretty pro feeling too, which is always nice.
