I have to give this one four stars even though my cat is a bit frightened of it, because it's just SPECTACULAR! It moves erratically with flashing lights, stops and chirps, then turns a random direction and goes off again. Its movements are unpredictable and its tail often flails; the chirps are pretty decent. It's also good at somehow working itself out of corners and other "traps". However my big cat is a nervous boy--he stares at it but as soon as it gets near him, he's out. So I'd say if your cat is bold and pretty fearless, this will be a huge hit. It's nice to have a hands-free toy so that kitty gets interactive play without a lot of work for the humans.UPDATE: We discovered there are three different modes which all flash different light colors so you can tell which one you're using: the one I mentioned (blue lights), one is slower and covers less distance (purple lights), and one where it flops around more (green lights). Unfortunately all three of them make my cat nervous to interact with it, even after many attempts. Push and hold the power button to initially turn it on, then push the power button to advance between modes. I should warn you that it's very difficult to find the power button! We drew around it with Sharpie but its floor travels wipes that off pretty quickly.

DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY. The first 3-4 minutes were great. Then it stopped rolling. It made the sound like it wanted to roll but was motionless. Junk!

My cat's have been very intrigued by this rolling cat toy! Having multiple speeds is nice, and its erratic speed and motion really surprises them. It is easy to turn on, and I really enjoy that it is rechargeable so you don't have to worry about replacing batteries. When you turn it on, it will roll around back and forth all over the ground, and works fine on carpet as well -- just slower than on hard floors. The outside has a rubbery covering, which helps prevent damage to the device or other things it hits. The downside I've noticed is that the noises are fairly "screechy" -- sometimes it is startling to my cats and scares them, so I wish it could be turned down or even off. Additionally, the noise of the motor is fairly loud as well, you will definitely hear it as it rolls around.

I have 2 cats that just turned one year old, and they really like this toy. The chirping and flashing light helps, but primarily it is the movement, triggering their hunting instincts.Due to the small size, this fits under furniture. This cleans out some of the dust (good for me), but can also get stuck under or behind the furniture and that means I have to get it out somehow. Right now I'm not quite sure where it is, so have to do a search around the house to find it.The tail is nothing special, but it does help the cats. One problem is that it screws on using plastic threads. I had put away the second tail because one of the cats kept trying to pull it out from where I had it. But, somehow, the tail that I put on the toy came off and I have not seen it anywhere. Now I have to remember where I put the backup, oh well. That will all get straightened out. It is a small price to pay to keep the cats active and having fun. It is fun watching them respond to this. The cats love it, so it is great to have it.

I have an orange cat, who I am always striving to challenge with new experiences and play interactions to keep him mentally engaged. I liked that this toy had a soft covering to the ball, and that the tail was rope and not some sort of hard plastic stuck in a curly shape. The rope was enticing to my adult, male cat before it was turned on. First, I dangled the toy, ball-side down, by the rope toy and my cat batted the toy around a bit. Then I flipped it so I held the ball and the tail dangled for my cat, who notoriously loves a bit of wigglin' string. He liked that as well. When I turned on the toy, however, things didn't go entirely as I had hoped. The Fast setting is entirely too much for my cat. It honestly scared him, and although he was curious about the somewhat noisy new toy I was obviously suggesting to him, he was a bit intimidated by the rapid and unpredictable movements. If you have a rambunctious cat that needs a lot of physical, potentially bitey time, perhaps this is better suited for you. I tried the interactive mode next, accidentally thinking I had chosen Slow. Anyway, my cat liked the twitchy motions of the interactive mode a lot! But again, the fast and erratic rolling around was a bit too much, and scared him rather than enticed him. Finally, I tried the Slow mode, proper, and he got on with it much better. He was chasing it down the hallway, apparently shepherding it as it went on its way, whatever direction that was. I thought it might work out, but in the end, even on slow mode the toy ran into my cat's shins, and made him cry out a bit either in protest or in temporary pain. I am not sure if I will be retrying or retiring this toy, but I think it could work well for a braver, sturdier cat with a less sensitive disposition. The device was quick to charge, requiring only a few hours. It makes a decent but not frightening amount of noise. My cat found it curious, not frightening, so it might be a bonus. The rope tail is sturdy and my cat enjoys batting at it. I find the colors quite nice, and the unpredictability of the toy's movement commendable, but just a bit dangerous at the speeds it approached my cat.
