I purchased my ribbon a time back while I serviced an old typewriter I purchased for 35 bucks, with the correct cleaner, which worked great. And the ribbon was simple to put on. Now, I could've just removed the one spool and wound the other to save a spool like we did way back when, but after the cleaning and servicing, I just wanted to get to typing. So I popped both in, removed and have saved the spools (and ribbon I can re-ink) and have written several plots and fleshed out characters on my computer, but today, the grommet didn't stop as expected. I manually changed direction per instructions and it still didn't. I decided to put it away until tomorrow. But the RIBBON itself works fine, there were no problems until the reverse direction lever didn't budge. So the ribbon has worked now for about a year and to me that earns this a five star... now if only I could get the ribbon to rewind automatically with the lever or even me just turning it life would be grand(er).

The typewriter ink spool I ordered was advertised at 2" diameter. The typewriter carriers that hold the spools are 2" diameter. So the spools ordered were to large to fit in the typewriter. So much for 2" definitions. So I unwound the ink from the new spools onto the old spools. So all is well now except for my black fingers!

I literally triple checked all the little numbers and code and no this does not fit my sons smith corona type writer and I do not understand. Now I have to take the tape off the oversized spools and get them in his smaller spools. Somehow.

I loved the spools. Not think or flimsy or too thick. It has a nice fit in my machine (Smith Corona Electra 120) and the ink transfer is AMAZING. 5/5, will order again when the time comes, which by the time this ribbon runs out, might be a minute.

I bought this to replace the spool on a vintage Smith-Corona manual typewriter I bought simply because I love these old machines, and I love writing in the old way, when you didn't have internet porn to distract you, and Yahoo yelling at you to check the news, and email from your sisters, and ads coming in to encourage you to enlarge the size of your private parts. Earnest Hemingway never dealt with all that, he lived next to a bar, had a fan and a bottle of booze and a cigar and a typewriter, and the size of his private parts were his own damn business. Typewriters need ribbons sometimes, otherwise you have to type really hard. The ribbon worked great, expect to get your fingers dirty because that's what real writin' is all about.

I bought these for my Smith Corona Corsair that I bought in 1977. The spools are too big.To be fair, I thought these might not fit, and they didn't. I couldn't find any paperwork at home for my typewriter.I hadn't used it in years, and my 13 year old niece is a budding artist - on her ipod. She's been playing with typing on computers for years, but it suddenly occurred to me this would be an absolute antique for her!She was overjoyed to play with it, but it needed a new ribbon. Local searches did no good. Even on Amazon, it seemed to be that there was no real good option for this, smaller manual typewriter. So, I cut them off the spools and wound them around the little spools on there. It was very messy (next time, I'll wear gloves) - but - it works! My little love can find the joy of typing down on an old manual typewriter!

Works fine on my 1939 Royal Quiet De Luxe portable and my 40-pound 1920s No. 3 Underwood. (I re-spool onto the original metal reels just for "authenticity" and to get the plastic out of my machines.)You can get extra mileage out of these all-black ribbons by occasional shifting the "red" lever to strike the lower part of the ribbon, and of course they spool back-and-forth for re-use unlike the one-strike carbon ribbons on modern machines.I get a good letter imprint on the page, perhaps not as good as the original silk ribbons, and carbon copies are fine.If you get smudged letters try cleaning the letter faces with alcohol and a tooth brush.
