The conductive bottom layer establishes a consistent ground path while the upper static dissipative layer evenly distributes and neutralizes electrostatic potential. This includes negation of triboelectric charges generated by frictional contact, adhesion, packaging, or interaction between the user and items placed on the mat.

Pros & ConsPros: The blue 30"x36" I bought was actually 36"x36", which was nice, but I still cut it to the size I needed. I am only using it on my computer desk surface to keep from getting shocked so much when I get up and touch something metal, and it seems to help.Cons: There's a strong chemical smell which I hope will diminish over time. The ground connection to the mat is a very small ring terminal, so small I couldn't find a place to secure it, so I had to cut the wire and put on a larger ring terminal. But the wire is very very thin with lots of insulation, so I had to solder up into the insulation before soldering on a ring terminal. The wire was too thin to crimp into the larger ring terminal, so I had to solder in there too. Now I'm just hoping it won't break because I neglected to put shrink tube on first. So for me at least, installation was a bit of a pain.

The left grounding snap is very loose because it is only very slightly swaged. It moves up and down and does not hold the connector still or flat. I need to find a tool to use so that I can swage it properly.
