This is one of the best purchases we've ever made. Our cat had completely shredded the cover of our Ikea couch so we bought this scratcher when we replaced it (the cover, not the cat). Our cat *loves* scratching this thing and it's solved our scratching problem. It's much more stable than you'd expect and I think that makes it really satisfying for the cat.

My cat has been scratching the corner of my sofa so I saw this product and decided to try it. It works great, she uses it as though she knows exactly what it’s for. I thought I may need to rub catnip on it to coax her but no need. I saw another review where they felt it was not sturdy and moved however that is not the case. It may move slightly if pulled with human force but nothing like that when the cat scratches it at all. I like the shape of it as well as it’s not just for a 90 degree corner but for a larger rounded corner or can be used for a flat front panel as well. It’s not cumbersome and tucks neatly under the foot of the sofa for not only stability but also creating a snug fit that you won’t bump into when walking by like other cat scratching posts. It’s made well, very sturdy and the carpet that’s used on the surface is durable…most importantly the cat likes it!

I put these on all four corners of my new couch to protect them from my very scratchy cats. They're not cheap, but better than a torn up couch. They appear to be made out of thick laminated cardboard with a very tough carpet layer glued over it. The plexiglass feet screw into the upright piece and are held in place by the feet of the furniture. Because the tower is cardboard, I have no doubt I could snap it off the foot if I tried, but they're strong enough for the cats and in my case they proved a pretty good color match. I'd love them to be less expensive, but they fit the bill for what I needed.

We just bought a new sofa after our 5 lively felines basically destroyed the last one. In hopes of making this one look nice for more than a day, I ordered 2 of these scratchers. They were easy to assemble (3 screws on the bottom of each; phillips-head screwdriver needed), and the base plate is clear but sturdy. Handy self-adhesive pads cover the screw heads (which sit flush in the base plate), so there's no way it will scratch your floors. We ordered brown to match our sofa, and the scratchers really blend in and look like decorative corner pieces. Most importantly, our cats LOVE these things! They definitely prefer them to the actual sofa surface, and I haven't seen anyone scratching the upholstery since we installed these. Furthermore, these things are really, really sturdy. They're the texture of sisal but don't seem to fray at all. I feel certain that these will last at least a few years, and there's no mess from pieces falling off. I may order another one, leave the base off, and try it as a horizontal scratcher in another room. I'd LOVE to replace the cardboard scratchers that leave tiny bits of cardboard everywhere!UPDATE: We've had these protecting our sofa for 18 months now, and they are vigorously scratched multiple times each day. The material shows only very slight fraying and will probably last for another 2 years or more. I really wish these folks would team up with a furniture company and manufacture couches and chairs that have this material built in on the corners to create truly cat-proof furniture!

Update on 4/28Having answered a question for this product I decided to provide an update. The two cats I write about below do not scratch anywhere else but these posts. The third we've determined is just simply a jerk and seems to really get off on going after our furniture then sitting there staring at us with contempt. These scratching posts saved our couches and our relationship with the other two cats. They are worth the money.end update.I've had this product for a few weeks. I was skeptical but decided to give it a try.I have a sofa and love seat that we covered in slip covers (thin fabric, non-custom). My skepticism was in the design of the scratching post as even from the description it seemed it would just pull away from the couch when the cat went to use it. We have three cats, two that are close to 15 pounds and quite strong, and smaller one at around 9 pounds. Our cats love to scratch. I ordered 4 posts and set up 2 in areas where there was a lot of scratching. I waited to see what happened. Our large grey came over and immediately dug into the scratching post which, as I'd felt would happen, pulled away from the couch which he didn't like. I left it in place and a few minutes later he tries it again, this time he pulls down, rather than away, and kept scratching for a while. The smaller cat did the same thing against the other post I put in place with the same experience. After a while both had the hang of it. Waited to see if the other areas would be revisited and then installed the remaining two.My conclusion is that the surface of the scratching post is such that they much prefer it to anything else. It's tougher than just sissal and so far doesn't show a bit of wear. They've learned to scratch on it in a way that doesn't pull away.I recommend, due to the price, that you maybe order one or two to begin and see how it goes. I can only speak for our experience but we're happy. The slip covers show no scratching activity and it seems they all concentrate most of their time one one corner and sometimes on another. The posts look fine with our sofas and slipcovers. Since we have no middle feet on either sofa or loveseat we just have two corners each, one from, one back, diagonal from each other.
