Awesome filter. Very inexpensive, but extremely useful. Was able to get great shots of the solar eclipse with his economical filter. Highly recommended for cameras and small telescopes.

I should have planned better in advance and purchased a "real" filter for my Nikon in preparation for eclipse viewing, but alas... I waited until the last minute. Anyway, this one worked better than I anticipated it would. It was fairly easy to assemble. With my lens fully retracted, it fit snugly. But upon zooming, the filter was loose on the end of the lens. Of course, I was pointing my camera up toward the sun, so it stayed on just fine. (But every time I brought the camera back down to level, it fell off and I'd have to catch or fetch it off the ground.) Anyway, for the price, it (in conjunction with my camera, of course) produced pretty good results for this amateur.

Bought this at the last minute for the Total Solar Eclipse 4/8/24 because I got jacked around by another seller regarding a glass Solar filter. The filter obviously is film in cardboard that is a little difficult to bend and assemble, but if your patient it goes pretty quickly and your ready to go!I needed it for my 50x9 Focus-scope on my telescope and it does a decent job! Once you assemble it, you need to bend the little tabs inside so they act like a spacer between the tube your using it on, be it a camera lens or Focus-scope etc so that it fits as snug as can be for that use. It fits snugly enough I think it'll stay on well enough unless it's windy.Either way, I wouldn't trust it staying on by itself if it's windy or you chance brushing against something like tree branches or someone walking by etc. Make sure it's secured with "something" if that's the case. Even if you have to use tape! Just be safe, not sorry. One slip while looking at the sun could ruin your life forever! Especially if your looking through a lens of ANY type that magnifies your view. It's definitely the size of a 70 mm lens and will likely fit well. It's big for a 50mm lens as described, but it CAN be made to work with a little ingenuity. Like I said, bend the tabs inside inward to act like spacers between your tube and it. All in all it works, but it's over priced IMO. It IS film mounted/glued in cardboard, so take your time putting it together so you don't tear it, rip it, or put even a pin hole in it and you'll be safe. Enjoy!

Wish I could rate this zero, but I cannot.I purchased this to go over my various Nikon lenses while photographing the recent solar eclipse.Firstly, it didn’t fit snuggly and a rubber band would’ve had to have been used in order to keep it in place. I tested this out and it still didn’t stay on.I would’ve had to hold it in place while trying to calibrate my camera to get a proper photo which would’ve made it incredibly cumbersome during those precious seconds.Second issue: I took my camera outside to give it a test run and couldn’t even see the sun through the filter. In fact, it didn’t filter anything. It was like a complete blockade of blackness where zero light wouldn’t come through.(Yes, I was using it correctly)Thankfully, I had some other filters I’d ordered on hand, and was able to use those to get beautiful pictures via my professional camera. What a lousy product and waste of money.

I was not expecting much- this is literally a piece of mylar in a cardboard holder. However, other positive reviews encouraged me to try it for the eclipse.I was shooting with a Sony A7iii, using an E-mount 50-200 zoom telephoto lens. The photo shows the item at the start of being folded, and only one corner has been connected. It arrives flat for shipping. All cuts and scores have been premade at the factory, so it is ready to be folded for use.Pros:It did protect my camera's sensor when used.Cons:Terrible cardboard for folding. You can see the white lines where the surface printing flakes off during folding. That is to be expected, except it then leaves that dust all over itself and the lens of the camera. There is a line of bumps on the surface of the filter- you can see it as a dashed line along a radius, at about the 1:00 position on the film.Did not fit well on my camera. I have a 49 mm diameter, so this 50 mm *should* have been approximately the right size. However, the cardboard ring around the mylar makes the tube about 60 mm, so it had to be held in place on the telephoto lens. The bottom line:Ultimately, it was not a total waste, as it was able to be used for viewing the eclipse in other ways. However, I was not able to capture a single photo with this filter, and would not recommend to others.

This filter was just as advertised and worked superbly! Got amazing photos of the eclipse, even though we fought clouds for much of the time. Buy yours according to the size of your lens (find the measurement on the inside of your lens cap). Fit snugly around the whole edge. Just be careful folding it during assembly. The cardboard is stiff, which is a good thing, but it's easy to miss the fold line if you're in a hurry.

It works really well! The price is right and it should be perfect for getting pictures of the solar eclipse. The only downside is the frame is made of cardboard, so you'll need to store it carefully after you assemble it, but I'm not going to knock it too hard because the price is great!. I could even see a sunspot. I shot this photo with an Olympus E-PL5 with an Olympus M.Zuiko ED40-150 lens at 140mm focal length, f/11, ISO-200, 1/125 sec. Order one before it's too late to capture the Great American Solar Eclipse on August 21, 2017. By the way, It fits perfectly on my M.Zuiko ED40-150mm lens which uses 58 mm filters and stays on that lens without using tape.
