Awesome grip for the A7, I have been using it since I brought it middle of August 2016. Works fine and helps extend the battery life.

It was only my mistake. I thought I was getting a great deal on a battery grip, but found out it was not compatible with my camera body. I have dealt with Adorama for a while now and really like all of the purchases I have made with them. AGAIN, THIS WAS NO FAULT OF ADORAMA, I DID NOT DO MY RESEARCH PRIOR TO THE PURCHASE.

I bought the Sony a7 a couple of months ago, and as you probably know the battery life is one of the major issues this camera has. Not to mention the ergonamics which is not the best around. So i decided to buy this battery grip to extend the battery life and have better ergonamics and i can tell you this is exactly the solution for those issues mentioned above. The grip adds stability while hand holding the camera making it easier to shoot ( that means less blurry pictures). Also the camera looks more professional. This is a totally worth investment to your camera gear.

Really ads to my Sony A7r. I love the size and the way it feels in the hand. Having double battery life is a must! The only issue I have so far is that if you are using a Metabones lens adapter, you won't be able to use the tripod mount on the metabones....You will have to use the mount on the grip, and if you have a heavy lens, then I might worry...

Well engineered and serves it's purpose in doubling battery capacity, but at the expense of nearly doubling the profile of the camera. A little pricey in my opinion as well. If the small form factor of this full frame camera is a reason you bought it, then this battery grip is not for you. Throw extra batteries in all that extra space your are saving in your camera bag and suffer through swapping one out a little more often.

The grip improves the handling of the A7 when working in portrait orientation or using bigger heavier lenses. It is somewhat expensive but it is well made and integrates seamlessly with the camera body. It also doubles the battery life, useful as short battery life is a draw back of the A7.

One of the many great virtues of the Sony a7r is its small and light body. However, after handling the camera for several days I came to the realization that it was a tad too small for my hands and mode of shooting. The battery grip came to the rescue and it is now a permanent fixture on my a7r. It adds insignificant weight to the package, while aiding grip and handling as well as providing a second battery. Together, it is still much smaller and lighter than my Canon and Nikon bodies. Some have criticized the need to remove the batteries for charging, but even without the grip I would have opted for an external charger, so for myself it is a non-issue. If you have large hands, or simply desire the ability to shoot with the camera held in various attitudes, this grip is a must.
