Each router guide template is individually handcrafted for exactness. The template is held on the door and jamb with nails; guide pins locate the deep mortise. The edges of the template assure a perfect outline when used with Soss RGB100 template guide and lock nut, or the porter-cable template guide #42024 (lock face routing) and #42237 (lock nut). 1/4" Router bit size.

But it doesn't work for crap on smaller boxes like the humidors I make. I tried to add a couple of pins to make it work, but it was a fail. I will be giving the Woodhaven jigs a try going forward.

worth every penny...but I'd say a plunge router is a must for perfect results.

I am a professional fine woodworker, and I decided to incorporate SOSS101 hinges into a unique furniture piece.I'm glad I ran a lot of test pieces before working with the final pieces! The original approach to mounting the hinges involved drilling and chiseling, and due to the thin wood sections involved it failed miserably, the maple wood cracking at the thin sections very readily. So, I moved on to this template as the remaining alternative. The great fault with it is that it assumes that even with these little hinges you are working on a fairly big door. On my particular project the furniture doors are only 18" tall. Therefore, I had to modify the template and invent a jig to position it accurately, as the hinges themselves have zero ability to adjust to any error of any kind.

Using all the parts and brands indicated and the SISS hinges are still a little loose.... font buy if you want a tight glueless application.

Functioned great. I did added a guide block between the pins to allow easier and more reliable clamping of template to my work piece.

Go this route over the Woodhaven template. Much less expensive and if something goes wrong (like it did for me) you're not out a $40 template and a $56 3/8" router bit. (The metal guides with damage the 3/8" bit) This is a much better option for three reasons: because it uses a much less expensive 1/4" spiral upcut bit that you can get at Depot for $17 and the smaller bit /wider template guide gives you a wider margin for error. And if you make an error you won't be out $100!Be sure to have a true plunge router with the stop pin. You absolutely cannot use just any router, it and guide have to be in the template when you turn on the router. Then plunge to the depth you need. Sounds simple, but not intuitive. If you haven't used a template before, this less expensive option is the way to go.
