Sourdough Starter Jar

Wide Mouth Jars --4.7inch

Wide-mouth jars are best for growing, feeding and maintaining sourdough starters. Over the lifetime of your starter, you will need to remove a lot of starter from the jar as well as add a lot of flour and water. If you have a narrow-mouthed jar, the small opening will make feeding and caring for your starter messier. A wide-mouth jar will ensure that you can easily add flour and water with much less spillage. It also makes it much easier to stir your starter (stirring is so important!!).

Sourdough Starter Jar

Non-slip silicone rubber Bottom

To prevent the glass flour canister slide right off of the counter, we equip a anti-skid bottom ring in the box, which makes the container more safe in the pantry.

Sourdough Starter Jar

Feeding Day Tracker Band

Depending on your feeding time, and move the band sideways to indicate the feeding day and time, move the band up or down to mark the starting feeding level.

Sourdough Starter Jar

Starter Jar

The transparent glass jar has graduated markings of a centimeter ruler to help you determine your starter's rise throughout its fermentation.

Silicone Scraper

The silicone dough scraper can help flour and water stir well to combine, and scrape the flour and water mixture from the edges to the bottom.

Breathable Cloth Cover

Each time after "feeding" flour and water, please cover with an unbleached cloth cover.

Bamboo Lid

The Bamboo Lid allows for short-term and long-term storage. It seals the jar nicely.

Allows for easy holder and use

This is my second jar. I love the size. The wide mouth allows me to add flour without making a mess and the size allows me to keep a fairly large starter. In the beginning of my sourdough journey I used the measuring band quite a bit but now I rarely do as it’s easier to eyeball. The temperate sticker is rarely accurate so I don’t use it. The wood lid and canvas cover are great for transitioned from fridge to counter and I use the skinny spatula exclusively for this jar. It works far better than wider spatulas. The one con I’ve found is the glass. After several months of using my first one I went to wash it and set it down in the sink (not in an overly aggressive way). A small chunk of glass chipped off. It seemed superficial but within a week I noticed starter leaking out, as the crack had expanded. For now I’m extra careful when washing.

The jars are nice, I wouldn’t use the cloth top but most jars come with that for some reason, but it attracts mold spores so if you have sourdough starter i wouldn’t recommend using the cloth top. One of the stirrers broke unfortunately, so I threw it away as not to build up any bacteria inside to potentially harm my starter. The jars themselves are great so far, the temperature gauge is helpful, and the band seems to be quality made. The size of the jar is great as I plan on growing a large starter for frequent baking. Overall it’s a good value, the straight edges make it easy to manage the starter. Glass is medium thickness id say.

Ordered this to make a sourdough starter. It was a great price and I love the design. It’s wide all the up so it’s easy to clean. I like the silicon bottom to keep it off of my cold granite countertop; it’s removable for washing. Comes with an airtight lid, that I use for my starter (I don’t press all the way down) and also come with a cloth top, which I chose to not use. I love the spatula that comes with it; it makes it easy to scrape the sides after I feed the starter.

Perfect size to see when starter and dough has doubled. I leave the silicone on the bottom when I hand wash to protect it from the sink as the glass is rather thin. Lid has a good fitting silicone ring on it.

Very nice. This is the size you need if your starter keeps overflowing.

Lots of toys included but I haven’t a clue what they’re for besides the cloth with an elasticized cap to cover for resting the sourdough while it grows. Having said that, I love the look of it and how easy it is to start a sourdough. It comes with a soft silicone scraping tool.Hint: get a digital scale and weigh your bread flour and spring water as you go.Good luck! 🍀
