Perfect grinder for Turkish coffee.

Well made and looks at home in an 18th century historical setting. Grinding the recommended white rice to clean it for the first use was a little difficult but roasted coffee beans was a breeze. Adjusting the grind for “boiler” consistency actually proved easier that I anticipated.

This is a quality coffee grinder and well made. Makes a great Turkish grind and I am very happy with the purchase. It is a manual mill and not the most ergonomic thing for the elbows. Great product if you prioritize fresh grinding of beans and don't have any arm issues. Not great for people who have tennis elbow or issues spending a minute manually grinding coffee or needing more coffee than just two people in which case spending more money to get an automatic grinder is probably needed.

You can adjust it to whatever texture you want! It can grind the coffee beans like flour, the only thing about it, it takes time and effort. The result is amazing anyway.

I had to get a replacement because the first one I got was defective (the grind adjustor screw was pretty much stuck in place, and I gave a good try trying to get it unstuck. So I just returned it and got a replacement sent to me. Amazon has good customer service so that was painless. The second one works as advertised, except that the hole in the handle is still too small to fit around the bottom adjustor so I had to use a regular wrench. The seller Ottoman Inspirations seems to have written the instructions custom, and I'd say they're very optimistic about the range of grind sizes this grinder can achieve. Their instructions sheet claims that it can go from Turkish to French press, but in reality the grinder with the adjustor screw removed (allowing the movable burr to rest as far as possible from the immovable burr) you get something that might be usable in a Moka pot, if you're desperate. No, this is a Turkish grinder, and its main and only purpose is to grind Turkish coffee, and it does excell at the task. No dialing in needed: the name of the game is turn the wrench until there is basically no room for the burrs to move, then back it off the tiiiiniest amount. The finer you get this thing to go the better. I've put an image of the results I get from this Sözen next to some pre ground Turkish coffee from the venerable Mehmet Efendi brand. My grind is eeeeeeever so slightly coarser, but it's so minor that you'll never notice the difference - no extra grit in the cup, and all the flavor of fresh coffee to boot. The Mehmet Efendi company has huge industrial grinders and I have something I can take camping, so it's inevitable their machinery can outdo this, after all. Both grinds pass the "traditional" way of knowing if you've gone fine enough - you should be able to see the ridges of your fingerprint if you put your finger into the grounds. The red Sözen logo is not going to last long. It disappeared on the first time I used it from just rubbing my hand against it.

Exactly what I wanted. A 100% metal grinder! Zero plastic anywhere. It is mostly brass with a thick steel bur inside. Grinding wheel could be a little larger, & it may hurt those with movement issues (arthritis). The small turning handle is understandable as it makes this piece portable and allows you to store the turning handle in side of the grinder. It doesn' bother me at the moment, but I will probably add some type of attachment someday.Grinds are fine. The largest grind settings is almost too much for a Keurig to handle. The Keurig has trouble pushing water through it (water drips out the side of the pod just a little bit), but it still makes the coffee without a mess. I will use with an espresso soon. The only problem that does not deserve removing of a star is its packaging. The box it comes in is very flimsy. I opened the Amazon packaging, grabbed the box the grinder was in, & the grinder slipped out of box hitting me on my foot. I almost cried because of its weight, but I also smiled BECAUSE of it's weight! I knew I had a hefty product that will last decades. If you love things that last and are tired of today's throw-away mentality products, then this grinder is for you.

The first one I received was defective, the bottom shaft was bent and could not be moved. I received my replacement in less than a week. The piece that holds the screw (shaft) again was bent but the screw can be raised and lowered to adjust grind. I seasoned it by grinding some beans and then made myself a cup of Greek coffee (or Turkish- depends on your perspective). I found that the adjustment did not allow for coffee as fine as my favorite commercial preparation of Turkish coffee. Being able to choose a good local roast made up for the slightly larger grind to prepare my Greek coffee.

We have a Krups electric blade coffee grinder that we have used for years. It works OK, but doesn't give a uniform grind, especially with the hazelnut flavored beans that we use. I was looking for a durable conical burr grinder to give a more uniform grind for our Cuisinart drip coffee maker. This brass grinder is well made and easy to use. It holds about 14g of roasted beans, which is perfect for my wife's morning pot of coffee (4 cups).Unfortunately, while it gives a very, very uniform grind and works pretty easily and well, it doesn't produce a grind anywhere near as coarse as I was expecting. All I've been able to produce is ultrafine powder to extremely fine powder. Even fully unscrewing the adjusting screw only gives an extrmely fine powder (like powdered sugar).Perhaps this one wasn't adjusted quite right when it was made, or perhaps this grinder is mainly made for those who like espresso. But it's not quite right for us.Gotta keep looking I guess.Cheers,Scott.
