I would have preferred to return because the plastic is way too soft and the teflon tape is junk. However, I had it installed already and it started leaking (bad teflon tape practically disintegrated), and while taking apart to fix, the parts were so soft that they became damaged beyond repair.I reused 2 of the original Heyward pieces with one of the new pieces in the kit and made it work. By comparison, the Heyward pieces were much harder/durable. Just need it to last 1 season, not sure if it will…

My pool pump does not have a disconnect on the intake or discharge. I wanted something to fix that problem and saw this. It is not designed exactly for this purpose but I am going to try it on my Hayward Super Pump to see how it works. It fits a 1.5” pipe and that is what I have. It requires a threaded coupling on one side and screws into the pump on the other. There is no O-ring, just a flared piece on the inside to seal it. I am not sure if that is better or worse than an O-ring since O-rings fail over time. We will see how this work and for how long. We have not opened the pool yet so I will update this later.

This looks exactly like my Hayward union kit. I'm replacing my inline chlorinator and thought it would be prudent to go ahead and install a union while I'm at it, so I never have to cut into PVC again. This has an o-ring, it wouldn't be a bad idea to hit it with lube during installation. It comes with teflon tape, and is threaded on both ends. It gets 4 instead of 5 because of my skepticism and bad past experience with generic import brands. But so far everything looks good.
