This was a gift from a friend for my 4 year old. I’ve never reviewed something not purchased by me but I felt the need to find it on Amazon because the instructions that came with it were non existent. No where the “add water for smoke” or “how the projector works” were mentioned, and the rest was vague too. Definitely NOT for little kids to put together, not even the stricker part.I also got a defective one - the two white parts which are supposed to be mirroring, are identical. So one side can’t be installed at all. I was able to fix the blue towers coming down and a couple of small problems by gluing parts together. Overall very frustrating installation process. The launcher itself is not the best. We have a few different launchers from simple to fancier ones, this probably has the smallest airbag and the biggest rocket, so as one can imagine, the rocket doesn’t go high no matter how hard you step on the airbag. My kid completely ignored the rocket launcher but loves the big rocket, especially when we found out about the smoke feature.Overall this does have the potential to be a fun and nice toy, but wish the quality was better.

Ok, so the launch parts aren’t super sturdy, and mostly fall apart. BUT the shuttle where you can put the astronauts (a very generous 4 for 2 seats), middle part that does light up projection of three discs, and bottom boosters with the cool mist and lights for launch are SPECTACULAR! Worth EVERY penny! It is loud and noisy, but so incredibly fun! Highly, highly recommend this product!!!

The Good:* Smoke/light/sound for launch effects!* Projects space scenes onto the ceiling!* 4 Astronauts* Tons of tools/accessories* 2 rockets with multiple configurations* Main rocket: multi-stage rocket with seating for 2 astronauts.* Alternate rocket: can be launched! The Bad:* Gantry pieces not very secure* Doesn't seem to be part of a larger series, so hard to expand on the fun!I got this set for my 10 year old niece, and she (and her parents...and myself) had a TON of fun with it! At one point, my niece had to remind her parents that it was HER toy and that they should stop hogging it and share. The assembly was relatively straightforward, but took a fair amount of time, as there was a lot of assembly and stickers involved (which is part of the fun). Once assembled, the base/gantry/command center part is a little unstable (it may be wise to use some sort of glue to hold the blue columns to the base). Aside from that minor gripe, the command center is a ton of fun! The main control center goes up and down to allow access to the rocket, and there are even lights and sound here too (these batteries ARE included). There are even some very nice details here, including a little key that fits into the command station to "arm" the rocket for launch. In addition to the "main" rocket, there is also a secondary rocket that actually "shoots" via an air bladder that kids stomp on. This bit screws on/off easily, so going between options is no problem at all. As much fun as the command center is, the real star of the show is the multi-stage rocket. There are three stages to this, as well as 4 booster rockets. These rockets all have plastic flame effects that can be added or removed. The bottom stage (which the 4 boosters connect to) contains a "smoke" effects (water vapor) as well as lights and sounds (3 AAA batteries required). The middle stage can project different space scenes onto the wall/ceiling (an additional 3 AAA batteries required). The upper stage can seat two astronauts. This toy was an unexpected hit, and a ton of fun. Note that The biggest downsides are 1) the unsteady gantry pieces (probably fixable via glue), and 2) the fact that this doesn't seem to be part of a larger series, so it isn't easy to add on more characters or sets.

This is definitely a STEM-type set, because the difficulty level of building it is pretty high and it's easier for older kids or if an adult is present. There are a lot of stickers to adhere, and plastic bits that need to be cut with pliers. I knew it was a STEM set which is actually why I got it, because I like more challenging kits like this. Building it isn't the only fun part though, there's so much you can more you can do like play around with the little astronauts, push the button that talks and tells you random space stuff, if you add water to the bottom you can have steam and if you add batteries you can power the projector. It's a very cool set.
