Product Description

Why do robins and other birds hit windows stop birds hitting windows bird tape

Why do Birds Fly into Glass Windows?

Collisions are most commonly caused by the reflective characteristics of glass. Because glass windows reflect the surrounding environment birds do not recognize it as a barrier. Birds see the reflected environment, such as trees and sky, and collide with the glass assuming it is a clear flight path. Any window, large or small can be a killer. CollidEscape is applied to the outside of a window to disrupt the reflection off the outside surface that birds perceive as a continuation of their environment.

Birds are frequently killed in these collisions or are stunned, only to die of internal injuries or fall victim to predators. Researchers estimate that up to one billion birds die as a result of window collisions every year in the United States alone.

CollidEscape offers several products to reduce and prevent bird strikes on windows. Our bird tape products reduce bird strikes up to 85%. Stop birds hitting windows!

Birds avoid colliding with spider webs

Nature's Bird Deterrent - The Spider Web

Spiders weave a visible design of white, non-sticky silk into their webs. As a result, it is easier for birds to see the web and avoid it. Ornithologists pose that Bird Tape warns birds away from windows in much the same way.

Choose from CollidEscape's full product offering of Bird Tape or full coverage perforated window films. In white, clear or tinted CollidEscape has solutions to meet your needs. Try our bird strike prevention products today. Reflections kill - stop birds from hitting windows.

Anti bird collision bird tape placement deterrent

What is the 2 x 2 Rule?

The 2× 2 rule describes the maximum distance between elements in bird-deterrent patterning. Pattern elements may be any shape (lines, dots, other geometric figures, etc.), but they should not be separated by more than 2 inches if oriented in horizontal rows, or in vertical columns. In other words, the horizontal spaces between elements should be 2 inches or narrower, and the vertical spaces should be 2 inches or shorter.

Other guidelines for bird friendly glass include:

  • Coverage: Bird-deterrent patterning should cover a window’s ENTIRE surface.
  • Surface placement: Bird friendly markers can dramatically mitigate bird-window collisions when applied to the OUTER surface of reflective panes.
  • Spacing: Greater spacing between pattern elements increases the risk of strikes and casualties, while reduced spacing between pattern elements decreases the risk.

Very good product. Preforms as advertised. Easy to install. Measure to width using the provided jig, attach at the top, sterech the tape to insure a straight vertical or horizontal line. Attach the opposite end. Press into position.I typically got at least one bird strike a day on my glass enclosed patio. Since putting up this tape last week, not one strike! Works great.

Haven't seen yet whether it prevents bird strikes, and the view is somewhat impeded but not terribly so. The main problem is the roll is way too small for the price for how close together the tape must be. To properly cover my window (not huge, about 36" x 46") I would need at least two rolls, so $20+ just for this one window. 20 feet sounds like a lot, so I was hoping to use some of this on another small window, but there's not enough for the first one. Should have measured how much I would need before buying, but thought it would be enough for 1-2 windows as stated. The card in the package says no matter the orientation it must be no more than 2" apart, while the listing says the vertical placement can be 4". I ended up mixing the two because vertical felt like bars on the window to me, and if 4" spacinh for vertical is correct I could take a couple of those and move them to the horizontal side. It's also difficult to reposition without tearing, so when I realized I was going to be nowhere near close to covering the whole thing and tried to carefully move the tape to the spots most likely to be hit, I ended up with tears and ragged edges and it was only applied for max ten minutes. The picture shows the entire roll used up. I'll leave it up for now to try to help my bird friends, until I can probably just add a taught screen over it with space between it and the window so birds can bounce off, or even just eventually screen in the porch. It would be very expensive to do all the windows I want to do with this stuff unfortunately, and I want to protect the birds! If this is all you can do for now, do it, but be aware the whole window is not covered unless it is very small, or perhaps this is meant for one half of a double hung window where the other half is covered by a bug screen?

Great product! We’ve had zero window strikes since applying the tape to the window near our feeders!

I have tried other much more expensive bird strike products. The individual decals don't work, and expensive commercial film was impossible for me to apply by myself. This tape is easily repositionable!! I'm thrilled that something affordable was this easy to apply. I used a metal ruler as a spacer between the stripes. The photo is my kitchen window, second floor. Yes, you can see it from the inside. But, I would much rather see it than harm birds.

I did not realize these have a very, very sticky substance on them, so when you put them on, they are on for life. I thought they were like other similar products that used static cling, not glue to make them stick. I put a lot of them on the windows, and they did nothing to prevent bird strikes. When I tried to take them off, I had to get soft steel wool to remove the adhesive from the terrible things. I bought some little dots that are static cling, and they work very well and don't ruin your windows. These were also very distracting when trying to see out of the winow.

This product arrived quickly. It was easy to install, the storm door was cleaned and the tape applied in horizontal strips two inches apart. I needed a ruler and a marker to get the tape on fairly straight.I hope it works, there had been two dead birds on the porch in two days, the tape has been up for 10 days and we have not had any more bird strikes.Time will tell how well it remains in place and how easy the window is to clean with the tape on.The tape is transparent, so it is barely visible from the outside or from the inside. It was easy to reposition if it wasn't completely straight.

It's worth pointing out a few things - first, this needs to go on the outside of the window, bear that in mind. Second, it's not invisible, not even close. Third, you don't need to buy loads of this and space it a few inches apart like it recommends, we've put our lines about a foot apart and it has completely eliminated birds flying into the window. The tape has held up, even with regular window washjng, with no sign of peeling, even after a year

I've been trying to come up with a solution for bird collisions but this isn't it. I'm sure it's effective I just don't like the aesthetic. Even measuring and being careful it's impossible to get these perfectly straight so if it's a room you use a lot you'll see it every time you look out. It also gives the impression of bars on the window more than I'd hoped it would which changes the ambiance of the room. If it's for shed windows or somewhere you don't spend a lot of time then it's probably fine but I can't stand how it looks.
