Nice design in concept. Training function works acceptably. GPS tracking is horrible. In the attached photos all hand held display readings shown were taken from a position within 10 yards of the collars shown in first photo which also shows the clear horizon which completely surrounds my house. There are no obstructions. Attempting to correct the problem with SportDog (aka Radio Systems Corporation) has been underway for over a month and a half with no resolution thus far. Their support reps tell me they are not tech savvy. You can’t call back and get the same person. Every call results in starting over with another person working from the same checklist or script. Thus far they have replaced the hand held (no change in results), replaced the GPS antennas on the collars (again nada) and completely revisited software settings and setup.DO NOT BUY THEIR PRODUCTS.

I got this for my dog's first camping trip and first time out in the woods because I didn't know if he would run or wonder too far away. I ordered the GPS tracking only version, no stimulation. It worked great and gave me peace of mind to let my dog be off leash to explore in the woods. I very specifically needed something that would work in remote areas with no cell phone coverage, and this fit the bill. The collar is a little bit bulky on my 23 lb dog, but he didn't seem to mind it too much. The batteries on both the collar and handheld lasted all day with continuous use. The handheld unit was pretty easy to use once you figure out the buttons.

I have a large three year old female American Akita. I am 76 and currently recovering from heart failure. Although I can get around moderately well in the woods to exercise my dog off the leash, there were occasions when she would completely vanish and leave me bewildered. After a fair amount of research I purchased the Sportdog Brand Tek Series 1.5 GPS Tracking System. This system suits my needs perfectly. I now know exactly where my dog is and I am discovering some of her habits. I always knew that I had a dog that could move swiftly and silently through the woods. However, I was astonished when I realized that she likes to hide from me and peep at me from behind the trees! The 1.5 Tracking System is easy to use and I will never exercise my dog off the leash without it.Worth more than just 'Five Stars!'

4 stars because i find the screen display icons not defined enough. But I would recommend this gps because it tracks your dog accurately, and I am in a forested area with lots of spruce trees and bush. It’s quite easy to use. I did lots of research and for the money i feel this is good value. I did not get the map so its a blank screen and i just put waypoints where i need. The main thing is i can find my dog, he is a coon hound and likes to roam,

I liked that i could see where my dog was relative to where I was. However, I did return it and buy the Tek 2.0, which is much better, since it has maps, I can now see where my dog is in relation to my location, and relation to the area I am hiking. I will eventually add on the e collar module as well. I have a deaf dog , so this a necessity for me. ai have researched the different brands , including the garmin, and this actually is very similar to how the garmin works. I actually bought both isn’units used, and they work just fine, at a huge discount. the owners manual is not very good, but I was able to figure out how it functions because I am tech savvy. The manual focuses more in how to use the collar component, abs lacks in the instruction for use of the gps tracking. I think many people return them , because the manual is deficient. If i are not able to figure out how to use it, I would have sought help from customer service. Many reviews had stated the customer service is very good. the tracking is pretty close , is often off by several yards, which I would expect from gps. It is so very comforting to be able to see where my dog is , abs which way he is moving, abs if he is moving , when I cannot see him. I look forward to adding the collar module, when i can afford to, so I can actually have a level of control over him , from a much greater distance, than the e collar i an currently using. If you buy this , be prepared to have to figure it how to use it, and possible having to seek aid from customer service. I would like to add that that this company , started making these collars in 2003, so it is not a new company, it is not a company that was created because they could sell on Amazon. They have been swelling collars to hunters for many years.

Not as good as the dogtra for slightly less money but still a good system with good battery life I have the tek 1.5 and was getting frustrated with it being wrong till I realized you have to calibrate it each and every time you start it up and I’ve realized that is what is going on with majority of the bad reviews they’re not recalibrating

This is junk. Collar never gets a gps signal regardless where I'm at. Compete waste of money.

PROS: I'm pleased with my TEK1.5 unit and it works well for my needs now that it is properly setup. My golden retriever occasionally bolts when he sniffs out an old bone or dead carcass or chases after a deer or elk. In the past it might then take an hour or two to reconnect with him. Not any more. The TEK 1.5 unit keeps track of where my dog is located relative to my position providing distance and compass direction. The unit also provides his speed and direction of travel making it very easy to locate him out in the woods. Also, I found the individual on the Customer Care hotline (see CONS below) very helpful and friendly in helping me solve a technical problem.CONS: The TEK 1.5 was a hassle to set up. Although the operating guide said the the collar and hand held unit were initially paired, I did not find that to be the case. Then when making the pairing I found the operating guide very confusing. It took me about an hour of trial-and-error to set it up. The messaging on the hand-held device is also somewhat confusing. For example, a message refers to pressing "Button A" when the buttons have no such label nor does the guide tell you which is Button A. I did encounter one anomalous event where I could not get the hand-held and the collar to pair properly even though I'd been using it for a couple of weeks. I called the customer care telephone number and got a very helpful and friendly individual to talk me through problem solving. My recommendation is that if you have problems pairing the collar to the hand-held device try calling the tech support rather than try to work through it on your own.
