The Biosta Sprouter is an easy to use sprouting system for making a variety of nutritious sprouts right in the kitchen. Designed for sprouting small seeds such as: alfalfa, radish, and clover, it is not designed to sprout larger beans, such as mung, adzuki, or grow wheatgrass. The Biosta Sprouter has three nesting 7-3/4" diameter sprouting trays, a water collection tray and a lid. Using the sprouter is simplicity in itself. First insert the red drainage caps in each tray. Then cover the ribbed surface of each tray with a thin layer of seeds. Next pour approximately 1 pint of warm water into the top tray. The patent pending design allows the trays to successively drain into one another - leaving approximately 1-2 tablespoons of water in the ribbed bottoms of each tray. This is just sufficient to produce the proper humidity for quick germination. For small seeds such as alfalfa, cress or mustard you only need to re-water once in 4 days; You can purchase a variety of seeds at health foods stores. Depending on room temperature and lighting conditions your sprouts should be ready in between 3 and 5 days after initial watering. Not only are the sprouts you make guaranteed fresh (because you germinated them) but they are considerably more economical than buying them at the supermarket. The Biosta Sprouter is available in either tinted green or clear plastic and comes with complete instructions and several recipes. The Biosta is made in Québec, Canada.

Very good product. Don't need to add too much water in top compartment.

I've used two methods to water the sprouts. One is to pour distilled water into the tray & then drain it. The other is to use a fine sprayer & "spritz" the water onto the sprouts. Just pouring the water onto them seems to make them too moist. They easily become inedible & smelly. But even using the spray bottle can be tricky. But the wonderful green sprouts that result are delicious! We use them on salads & sandwiches. Enjoy!

great sprouter, Alfalfa & Broccoli, I bought seeds both here from Todds, they are almost 100% germination(AMAZING) , Burpee was not nearly as good). When buying Biosta Sprouter, the directions are maybe appropriated for Canada's cold climate, the brocolli is a little trickey, water the first day, and look and see if enough moisture, if fine, water the 3rd day, then each day after, this is for brocolli which is a little more trickey for those like us in Zone 10 growings, Southern California. For the alfalfa, water each day, move to a table in the kitchen near NOT direct light, and we rotate the trays, since the top one gets more indirect light. We also use filtered water. Sorry for sounding esoteric .

This is my second Biosta Sprouter. I wanted to add to my stack since we go through a full crop of alfalfa sprouts in about four days. We love Alfalfa on salads and sandwiches and this sprouter does a great job. You just sprinkle about a tablespoon of alfalfa sprouts on each tray (I wet it first so the seeds don't bounce out of the tray) and add water to the top tray. It drains down and collects in the bottom and then you dump it. (the drained water at the bottom is also good for your house plants) After watering, I cover the stack with a dishtowel. With small seeds, you only need to water every other day. Once the first leaves develop, I leave the towel off and set the stack in a sunny window to develop the chlorophyll. I get a crop every four to five days.I have used my first one for over five years. The only thing you have to careful about is not loosing the little red plug covers

This works well for seeds that sprout really quickly, but not so well for slower sprouts. There is always some residual water left in the tray slots which is a problem for slower seeds as it's much more likely that you'll get mold growing in the couple weeks it can take for them to be ready. Sprouters with a mesh for draining work better for those as you can get them drier between rinses. Also, one of the things I really like to grow is onion sprouts and unfortunately onion seeds fit absolutely perfectly into the slots and get stuck there... and rot. It does work just fine for fast seeds like alfalfa or spicy mix that are ready in a few days.

The Biosta Sprouter is just as great today as it was 35 years ago when I bought mine. The one I recently purchased was for my daughter who expressed interest in "growing her own," but couldn't find one on-line. When she mentioned that, I went to the cupboard, found mine and typed Biosta into Google! This sprouter allows you to become an urban farmer, right on your kitchen counter. And the 3 levels let you feast on 3 types of seeds at the same time. Clean up is easy with a toothbrush. If you are buying sprouts, STOP! Just buy this sprouter and grow your own.

The sprouter is like a lot of others so to be fair the design is typical. The little red siphon caps color, (red), rubs off on your hands. The little siphon orfices don't drain well. The different trays are "tippy" in the base. The sprouts germinated fast. It is nice looking on the countertop. It really only needs two waterings for alfalfa, that was cool.
