When movement is not detected, and the sensor times out, any movement within the next 30 seconds will turn the lights back ON. However, an Independent light sensor will not turn on lights if ambient light in room is sufficient. Complete the look with one of the Square D X Series cover plates (not provided) that easily snaps into place for a modern, flush-facing finish to your walls. Enjoy a consistent look in your room or home with the full line of Square D X Series switches, dimmers, sensors and receptacles.

Having installed multiple sensor light switches around the house, I found that in certain locations, getting the lights to turn back on by moving after auto-off (while in the room) was difficult. This is particularly true of rooms where activities such as TV-watching, playing videogames, or reading take place, where limited body movement happens (the sensor switch is activated by motion).I got this switch, since it is from a reputed brand and therefore I hoped that it would have higher sensitivity of detection, compared to the existing motion-sensing switch in a TV room. The sensor switch I had there was a generic brand, which performed well when entering and exiting the room, but when watching TV, once it auto-turned off, it took **a lot** of arm-waving to get the lights to turn back on, even after adjusting the sensitivity to the max. This is seriously annoying since the maximum time for auto-off for these kinds of switches is typically 30 minutes, and most shows/movies are longer than that! The new switch is a good improvement over the old (which has been in service for about a year), because it takes only one light motion to turn the lights back on, almost immediately, compared to having to wave arms for several seconds in various directions, before the old sensor would turn the lights on again! Ideally, the sensor switch should sense body heat in the room, even without major motion, and prevent the lights form auto-turning off, but after testing three different brand of switches, in various locations, I have found this to be unattainable.Things I lime about the sensor switch: it is well-built and it fits perfectly with the existing screw-less 2-gang plate where I installed it, and its color matches almost perfectly. It doesn't require a neutral wire for installation and can be programmed for various time durations and light levels in the room (to account for natural light during the daytime). The best feature, though, is that unlike most other switches of this kind, which have occupancy and vacancy modes, this one also has the ability to turn sensing off altogether, making the switch operate just like a regular light switch, at he push of a button. This is useful for occasions where a room is temporarily used for sleeping, when having an active motion-sensing light switch is actually a problem, as the lights turn on when people move in their sleep!I did not like that the instructions did not include a wiring diagram, and that the back of the switch did not identify what each wire is for. Thankfully, having installed several of these switches before, I was able to figure out how to wire it on my own, but for those doing it for the first time, they should either contact the manufacturer, or seek expert help for installation. All in all, a quality product, with solid functionality. It should fit the needs of most users.

Fully tested all functions and everything works exactly as it should. There are three parameters:1. Time (time the light comes on either by motion or button click)2. Range (sensitivity)3. Light (How dark it has to be before light functions, but I suspect it is more about how much heat difference between the movement and the background)Every one of the parameters have enough flexibility for any realistic use of this.I got it for motion sensor, but the countdown option is actually better for me, as it's for the light in an antechamber/entryway with pantry shelves on the walls. You walk in with empty hands and leave with full hands. In the winter the floor is wet, so going back to flick it off is often not done... It's a light that is on multiple hours a day that it doesn't have to be. Being off-grid, that's expensive. It was doing the job just fine with motion, but I do have cats, and it's a tight hallway so they can set it off at the settings I like. But with the countdown timer, i can press the button, and 20 or 30 seconds later the light goes out.Now one thing i have to say, this thing needs a neutral wire. Some light switches only have a line in and a load out wire coming to them, and there is no neutral connection in the switch box, so you may well have to run another wire to connect to neutral. (or if your switch is on the neutral side, then you need a hot wire) This cannot be taken as a negative to this item, as you could not make this product without that requirement, it's an electronic device itself that needs power to operate. In standby use, it has a draw of 0.007 Amps. (about 0.8 watts or about 20 watt-hours per day 0.4 cents per day on typical mains power, and 2.5 cents at typical generator cost)

This is a motion sensor light switch that utilizes a PIR sensor to detect motion, which then automatically switches your lights on and off. I received the light switch along with detailed printed instructions for the installation and setup of the switch and 4 electrical connectors. This is moderately easy upgrade for either a professional or for a do-it-yourselfer.The light switch seems well built, and utilizes a push button switch in place of a rocker or toggle switch. As this switch has a PIR motion sensor, the intention is that you may rarely have to touch the switch with your hands, as it turns your lights on and off automatically. During my installation of this switch, the only small difficulty I encountered was rearranging the wires and connectors in the electrical box so that they would all fit. This was due to the larger size of the controller on the back of this switch that extends into the electrical box and also the extra switch wires that were present.Once installed, the motion sensor light switch seemed to function well, turning on the lights when I walked by the sensor, and then turning the light off after a predetermined time. I liked that you can fine tune settings such as sensitivity to motion, sensitivity to ambient light, and the length of time the light stays on. I did find that the ambient light sensor required quite a bit of light in the room where I installed it for it to prevent the motion sensor switch from automatically turning on the lights, even though I had adjusted it to the lowest setting. This was because the ambient light was coming from recessed ceiling fixtures, as when I turned on wall fixtures, the ambient sensor worked well. I would have liked if there was greater adjustment for lightly lit rooms. In addition to this mode of automatic on/off, there are two additional modes of usage that can be selected, but which I didn’t investigate. Overall, a nice way to modernize the lighting controls in your home.

Most Square D's are rated 15 A- this motion switch is 10 A, still far above the 2 to 5 A that all the cheaper switches are rated. Homeowners don't need a high amp rating & expensive switch, just something to turn on a hallway or a food hamper light. In my case, it turns on a shop exhaust fan and lights. This switch is easy to set up with excellent sensitivity, range and timer.I have every confidence in durability and reliability - Square D is an industry standard.

Are your teenagers leaving lights on everywhere they go? Well this switch will reduce your electric bill. The only downside is whatever switch that needs to be swapped out has to have a white neutral wire in the same box. It's for the timer in the system.
