Product Description

Stanley 16-981 2-Inch Wide FatMax Short Blade Chisel

Amazon.com

The Stanley 2-Inch Wide FatMax Short Blade Chisel is an ideal tool for the dedicated woodworker who repeatedly requires perfect grooves, crisp carvings and timesaving precision. The FatMax chisel provides increased strength in the neck area where common breakage occurs. Each chisel is friction-welded for a stronger blade and improved performance. The hardened and tempered high-chrome, carbon-alloy steel is ball-bearing grade; it allows the chisel blade to stay sharp longer, unlike forged blades that require more frequent sharpening for edge retention. Designed for resisting tough impact and treatment, the ergonomic bi-material handle has steel striking caps, allowing the user to work with steel-headed hammers. The FatMax chisel brings the innovative traditions of the FatMax line to those who demand and rely on high performance hand tools. The 9-inch blade offers exceptional strength and control. It comes with a reusable, full-length blade protector that can be wall-mounted for easy storage.

I needed a heavy duty chisel to pry up old tiles and linoleum. This one does a great job. On my hard to remove areas, I have to use a hammer to help push through, by hitting the top of the handle, and the chisel has been taking the abuse. Nice chisel.

This is one solid piece of metal, just one, from the point of the chisel to the tip where you hit it with your hammer. The handle is very, very comfortable. This is a chisel for truly heavy work. Will never break.

My first wide chisel. Just used for a tenon finishing. I liked the experience.Stanley FatMax chisels is my choice for carpentry, heavy work and very hard wood. I have a great set of Japanese chisels I use for pairing and furniture making but despite they are sharper and cut for longer time without resharpen they are more brittle and can dent under heavy work on very hard woods... FatMax "softer" steel is less brittle and support heavier job in those hard woods.Their price point puts them at great value.Recommended.

Bought this chisel as I needed one quickly for my fence project rebuild. A heck of a lot of notching in green wood!Had an inch and a half stanely I purchased around two years ago. I sometimes don't like the new and "improved" designs, but this is a plus!!!!The tang goes through the handle. Because of this design improvement, I had excellent ergonomics and I moved through the many new fence posts with relative ease. My friend moved much slower. My other stanley chisel worked well. This one works better. There is no mention of how hard the metal is in this chisel, and I am hoping that this too is an improvement. Especially in sharpening and continuing to maintain an edge. All in all, a pleasant suprise as I purchased it on-line rather in a store.
