As a Tig welder, I see myself only being able to sharpen the tungsten to a certain length before it burns my hand. This tool works perfectly! I cannot express that enough. Allows you to sharpen the whole tungsten without having to throw little stubs away! I use 3/32 tungsten and works wonders! I highly suggest this to anyone Tig welders!

Since I have used this pin vise, I have to explain why I’m only coughing up four stars. This is a great little unit, but it does have a flaw. Have a look at the non-business end. When using the pin vise, there is nothing to stop the end from rubbing against the palm of your hand. Way back when, I used to have a pin vise that had a rotating plate ( best explanation I can think of) that shielded my palm from the end of the pin vise. This shield stopped irritation during prolonged use. If you’re only using this for one or two holes at a time, the lack of a rotating shield likely will not bother you. Prolonged hole-drilling, however, may well be a dit of a chore.

Had never used a pin vise before but stumbled upon it by accident. Glad I did though cause it was something I never knew I needed til I used it. Have a few Starrett tools and yes they're a bit pricey but you get what you pay for I suppose. As some have stated it didn't grip bits too well at first as the bits keet spining so I kept inserting various sized bits and then tightened/loosened repeatedly several times and now it is fine. Don't know if you would call it a break - in period but it worked for me. All in all I think it'll be a great little addition to my shop. As for the thickness I think it's a good fit in hand and the sheerness is good as well. As I mentioned it's a little on the pricey side but the quality of it makes it a 1and done since its so well made I'll never need to buy another

I needed to drill 1,500 holes with a .078" drill bit. This pin vise worked admirably as a drill chuck for this small drill bit. The old one I originally had was always coming loose. This Starrett Pin vise held the bit securely for the entire 1,500 hole drilling process!

Great product performance and outstanding craftmanship, to be expected from this made in USA device. I use it to twist silver and gold wire to make jewelry. Highly recommended.Amazon, please disclose where the product you sell are made.

This is well built and handy little item. Every hobbyist ought to have one. Frequently I need to drill a small hole in a wood for a model. Getting out the Dremel, which is what I used to do, is time consuming and yields worse results for delicate jobs.

I bought this to hold a 1/8 inch drillbit to do some modeling work. It suits this purpose perfectly and holds tightly to the bit. It can be a little hard to turn fluidly, but I think this is a function of my hand and not the product.

Great little pin vise. You can use these for all sorts of things, mine is currently loaded with a big needle to poke my wife with when she gets slow on the bring. You can driill small holes in delicate materials with them, use them to hold wire for shaping, etc. Very handy things to have around. As usual with Starret, excellent quality.
