Simple and easy to use. Just plug in your 2.5" disk (SSD or SATA) into the shell and your physical size is now that of a standard SATA hard drive. Thay call SATA drives 3.5 inches but they are actually 4 inches wide. This in turn can be plugged into a mobile rack like the Syba SY-MRA55006 5.25" Bay Tray Less Mobile Rack for 3.5" and 2.5". The only thing I've encountered that is "Twilight Zone" - The LED indicator light is on the rear of the box rather than the front. I guess if you were a little mouse you could craw inside the computer, and then be able to see the LED.

I'm using this adapter with a Samsung 870 QVO 2.5" SSD and it works just fine. The only trouble I had with it was it was slightly too wide causing the hard drive tray to expand and wouldn't fit in it's slot, but I was able to fit it in by removing two of the screws. I am speaking about the extra hard drive slot in a Lenovo T730.

So I used this inside another bin assembly that held a Ultra slimm 9.5mm dvd drive on top and had a 3.5" opening beneath that would fit in the 5.25" single CD drive opening on my AKAI MPC 4000 se. I popped this beneath the DVD drive fit absolutely perfect and then I slapped a 1TB SATA HD inside it and done worked absolutely perfectly. An best thing is to remove HD simply open door and it ejects the HD just slightly so that when door is fully opened its hanging out about a half inch to just pick up and go and to connect HD back to in my case the MPC you simply lay the HD back in the slot slide in about 75% and as you close the door it has an internal mechanism that reattaches the HD to the system. So far now I've purchased about 6 or 7 of these for my own hardware and making kits to resell to other musicians not so tech savvy and just want it done so they start making beats.lol but 👍👍 up is what I give it for durable construction and how well it works.

Este conversor fue el 3ero que probé y los dos anteriores no tenían los conectores SATA 3.5" exactamente en el mismo lugar que un disco duro de ese tamaño. Este convertor es perfecto porque simula al 100% ser 3.5" al 100%. Altamente recomendado. Su único punto negativo es que el precio es alto a comparación de otros conversores, pero hace perfectamente bien lo que debe hacer.

Not because it doesn’t work, it does. It just isn’t worth the price. I ordered this to install a Crucial mSATA SSD card and upgrade my Dell Latitude E6410. Originally I had ordered the MyDigital 2.5 mSATA enclosure for this purpose. Unfortunately I found it didn’t fit my Dell Laptop. It turned out to be a hair short so the contacts didn’t meet fully once installed in the laptop. Because of this the SSD card wasn’t recognized in the BIOS and consequently doesn’t work. (See my review of the MyDigital 2.5 mSATA enclosure dated Feb. 6, 2014 )When this new StarTech enclosure arrived I could tell almost immediately it wasn’t going to work for the same reason the MyDigital enclosure didn’t. The two enclosures look like they rolled off the same assembly line, right down to the circuit board inside. The only differences were the brand name labeling on the enclosure, the included installation components and the packaging.The MyDigital enclosure came in a plain brown box with the necessary screws and a small screwdriver. Whereas the StarTech enclosure came in a fancier StarTech branded box, the necessary screws, but no screwdriver. However there was an installation manual (for those people who can’t figure out on their own how to set it up properly).I did try mounting my mSATA SSD card into the StarTech enclosure then installed the enclosure in my laptop. Just as before with the MyDigital enclosure, when installed properly with all laptop mounting screws and case covers in place, the SSD card wasn’t recognized in the BIOS. To confirm my suspicions just as I had with the MyDigital enclosure, I removed all mounting screws and case covers and seated the enclosure fully into the laptop drive bay. The SSD card was then recognized in the BIOS and worked just as it should. A fantastic improvement over spinning platters.The upshot - save your money. If it fits your laptop, get the MyDigital branded version of the enclosure instead. The only thing your getting for the extra 15 bucks (at the time I ordered it) StarTech wants for the same enclosure, is a fancier branded box, enclosure labeling and an installation manual. Oh yeah, you don’t get the small screwdriver needed to put the enclosure together.I’ve returned both enclosures and ordered another that I hope will work. The Syba 2.5-Inch SATA to mSATA SSD Enclosure was about 5 bucks cheaper than the MyDigital enclosure I originally ordered. Hopefully the Syba enclosure will fit my Dell Laptop. I’ve looked around on different sites for other options and the Syba seems to be the only other item on the market for what I’m trying to accomplish. So this may be my last shot at completing this desired upgrade.

This drive converter solves a big problem of mine. All my RAID arrays are outfitted with trayless 3.5" bays so incorporating 2.5" SSDs poses a major logistical problem. Even though a previous review reported poor fit, I bought one anyway just to test it out. Happily the SSDs fit perfectly into this converter, which in turn fit perfectly into the 3.5" bays. I've tested with about 2-dozen insertions into different bays, and the drive has fired up every single time. I've confirmed SATA III 6Gb/s operating speeds through the converter.The big advantage of these converters is they allow air circulation across the SSD. All the trayless 3.5" bays have rear-mounted fans that draw air from front to back, and these converters are designed in such a way as to make good use of this cooling air. This a big relief because even though SSDs (and regular 2.5" drives) are low-power, they can still generate enough heat in an enclosed space to cause damage.Out of curiosity, I tried fitting the converter into an internal 3.5" bay, and the holes were indeed a tad bit off (enough to have to break out a drill). Still more curious, I scrounged around and found 3 old cases with 3.5" floppy bays. Voila. The holes aligned perfectly and the fit was spot on. I guess the lesson here is if you're drill-challenged, find an old case with a 3.5" floppy bay.I like these converters so much, I'm buying a bunch more.Oh, one more thing, inserting and removing drives into the converter can get kind of sticky. It takes patience and gentle rocking motions.
