This is the second one I bought I. LeftThe old one on my old boat bought a new boat and bought 1 to put on the new boat . Unfortunately, a new boat has a larger swim platform. And a friend of mine raised a motor all the way up and cracked it. So I haven't used it about 1 or 2 times on the new boat and it worked fantastic. Haven't bought another one yet to put on it

I dislike that fact that this model of Hydrofoil is listed as for used on larger size outboards and drill less. I had to drill my 2008 Yamaha F225-TXR cause the forward mounting holes were not spaced wide enough to use the provided bolts to pinch the Hydro Foil in place. My The cavitation plate was to wide.I haven’t done a sea trail yet to test the Hydra Foil, With the south swell we’ve had in Monterey Bay the last few years, I’m hoping installation of the Hydrofoil cuts down on the boat porpoising as it is the main reason I installed it, and one of the performance benefits this Hydrofoil is suppose to perform .

Came new w/o the bolt cover tabs. No biggie, can smooth over with silicone.Screw to pinch tight are too short.Flush is nice but they need to reach/thread.Kinda Doesn’t work as a complete no drill fit on an alpha 1, Gen 2.The cavitation plate is wide, so the hydrofoil slots where the pinch bolts go through don’t clear it.You can use the anode bolt and go really tight to keep foil from pivoting some but drilling the plate is more secure20’ cuddy 4.3lx w/ 14.5 19pProsGets on plane w/o the drama.Virtually no bow lift.Eliminates low slows wander/chine walkKeeps the boat flat, cuts through chop better in all conditions.Improves steering feedback and handling.Eliminates low speed plowing almost 100%Slows down, nows down more graduallyPlanes instantly. I installed this on an Alpha 1 drive and as advertised the boat popped up on plane very well and tracked nicely at low speed but at higher revs it appeared to put a drag on the boat despite trimming. It was attached using the trim tab bolt with the stabilizer screws as suggested. Second time I used the boat I adjusted the trim tab to adjust tracking and was surprised the trim tab bolt appeared looser than I remembered when tightening. Knowing this I was sure to tighten the bolt well after I adjusted. However, 25 mins into my trip at about 26 mph (3800 rpms) I felt a surge in speed and later found out I had lost the Sting Ray.

Best upgrade for the money you can make for the handling of your boat. Love what it does for my 19-5 Four Winns Sundowner, performs so much better and the foil only takes minutes to install. Don't count on the hardware caps to remain in the foil as they tend to pop out I'm sure when the foil is loaded and flexes. Very easy to fill void where the bolts are installed with some silicone to streamline the foil and prevent drag + will retain hardware if in the unlikely event of any of it coming loose. I recommend to all my friends and family -- awesome product and it looks cool!

Installed on 1986 19' Celebrity bow rider 260HP I/O. The boat always planned out slowly and at 20mph or less bow would stay high even with out drive trimmed . I installed Sting Ray for the 2016 season. The results were good the boat planes out much quicker and at 20 mph or less I stay on plane. When I pulled boat out ow water for the season I noticed the bolts that center the hydrofoil were gone looks like they pulled through the plastic. It is a no drill install the trim tab bolt is removed and put back through the hydrofoil and that's what holds it in place. I didn't gain any top speed but I do get on plane quicker.

Foil works great ! I put it on a 19 1/2 ft i/o and cut the bowrise by 80% and now planes out in under half the time.Very stable in tight turns.Only negitive is that the foil needs a longer bolt included with the installation kit. In researching this unit a common complaint was that the unit would fall off after a short while.The factory trim tab bolt has 3/4 inch LESS tread engagement after installing the foil and spacer plate (the spacer plate is a GREAT addition to this install ).On this Mercruiser install I used 2 1/2 inch long 7/16 dia. common course tread bolt with internal hex head (uses an allen wrench ).You have to use the internal hex head because of the small bolt opening in the Mercruiser outdrive.Installs on other makes may be different.Use RED Locktite on dry and clean bolt and trimtab treads.Tighten securely and let Locktite "cure" overnight before using. Hope this info is helpful.
