When set to 78 degrees, the temperature in the tank, even next to the heater, measured 74 after being on for a day with the green light on. Since that's cool for a betta, we turned it up to 79. Now, it's consistently at 78. So, it does heat the water consistently, but not necessarily to what it says on the controller. Pair this with a decent thermometer and you're in business.

Unboxed it plugged it in and slapped it against the glass of the aquarium. Set it for 80°. Pretty much forgot it and the temperature is always 79°.

I’ve kept aquariums since the early 80’s and I really like these modern heater innovations.I picked this up because the controller for the heater is in-line, not underwater. The controller also acts as a thermometer by always displaying the current temp. It also has safety features built in to stop it if it overheats, so you don’t cook your fish if there’s a failure, and also, it shuts off when dry, so you don’t accidentally burn it out while doing water changes.I also like that it uses ceramic heater elements, which generally last longer than metal coils. The only thing I didn’t like was that the actual controller screen faces up with the AC plug about a foot above it - it’s hard to explain, but I expected the top of the controller to lead to the tank, with the plug below, so I could mount it to the wall. That’s a minor nitpick, so I didn’t deduct a point, because there’s a 50% chance that someone else prefers a different cord orientation. With all that being said, I highly recommend this 50w aquarium heater, that has every modern feature you’d need without the extra cost.

Overall, this is a pretty good tank heater. It suctions to the tank wall easily and has not come off at all since I put it on. It is very easy to adjust the temperature, but the temperature is not super accurate. It has been consistently 3 degrees off. Other than that, it has kept a consistent temperature without fluctuating, which is a much more important aspect than the degrees being a bit off, in my opinion.

Let me preface by saying I am using this in a split-chamber 5-gallon low-flow freshwater fish tank. I have added plants and shrimp in the last week. This 25W heater should help keep the water in a comfortable temperature zone for my shrimp and the Betta I eventually intend to introduce to the tank.It is a tank located at my work office, and that office is COLD. The average daily temperature in my room is 65-68 F. Betta are tropical fish this would be a non-viable temperature without a heater to keep the tank warm. I ordered this and have it located on the tank in the back chamber of the filtering area where it is hidden from sight. This is small enough to be stuck back in a small area with no issues. Once they were wet the suction cups are keeping it where I stuffed it, which is slightly away from the pump, filters, and any other power cords, with sufficient clearance of around 1/2 inch so that I don't have any issues with the heater accidentally melting something. The cups let go a few times while I was working on getting the dry tank put together over a week and a half. I didn't rush the job. It just dangled in place unplugged until I had it ready to put water in. Then I wet the suction cups (again) and filled the tank. They haven't let go since then. There is a digital readout on the cord part of the heater. It constantly displays the "set temp". It does not indicate the temperature of the water where the sensor is. Pretty sure that's not a part of the design. It's a heater, not a thermometer. I really like that the temp setting buttons and readout is far enough away (down the cord) from the actual heater that it is easy to get to and change.I have the unit set to 82 degrees on the indicator switch and the "main" portion of my tank fluctuates from around 74 degrees to 79 degrees with the light intensity and me running a personal heater in my office to keep from freezing to death. (I have a "daylight simulating" light on the tank that changes intensity throughout the day.) Although there is a lot of "fluctuation" between the night and day cycle I am ok with it. The regular temperatures in the wild aren't a steady always-within 3 degrees temperature. This more closely copies natural temp fluctuations. The size should be just right for my 5-gallon. I'll use it for a while and see. It does fluctuate quite a bit overnight. (Again, I'm ok with that). It might also be struggling because the tank is sealed and separated from the filter area and that affects it "detecting" when the main tank area gets too cool.I think this is a good, compact heater and if I had to stick it in the "main" portion of the tank to better regulate the temperatures it would take up a significant visible area, but it wouldn't be overly obnoxious and I might be able to hide it behind some hardscape.Works. Get it if you need it.

First of all, this heater is very well made. I like the heaters that put the electronic control outside of the water tank.I got the 25w version for use in a small tank. I tested the heater in a bucket with 2 gallons of water, and it would only heat to 77F. I would suggest getting at least a 50w heater, especially if you want to heat the water above mid 70's.UPDATE: I increased my review to five stars. There’s two reasons I did this. Number one, I was contacted by the company who was concerned about my review. I was impressed that they responded to my review, and in such a timely manner, to make sure I was satisfied, I also wanted to clarify my review. The 25W heater did a good job heating the water. It heated it at least 10 or 12° above ambient temperature, which is all you can pretty much ask for. My initial review comments, which I have not changed, still stand. This is a quality heater, however, you may need a higher wattage than what is specified if you have cooler ambient temperatures that you’re dealing with. Otherwise, these are great heaters and I highly recommend them.

I've only had this aquarium heater for a little while but it does what its supposed to and is accurate. I like that there is no exposed glass and that it has an accurate digital readout. It's been said that the most common form of catastrophic heater failure is the heating element fusing on so that the fish are cooked, so I'm very glad that this unit is engineered to shut off if the temp goes over 94 degrees.
