I received my single spout kegerator with glee. Upon opening the smaller boxes that contained the hoses that connect the keg to the CO2 tank and keg to spout, I noticed a slimy, sticky residue on the hoses and stains on the cardboard box. I've dealt with PVC hoses before and know that some kind of PVC deterioration had occurred. I contacted Summit with my concern and they totally discounted my concern. Upon investigation, I learned that the residue might be the plasticizer Di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) that is commonly used in many products. Although the FDA approves it in food grade manufacturing, the EPA considers it highly toxic to humans in too many ways to report. Look it up. The categories are overwhelming. Endocrine, Testicular, Ovarian, Endometriosis, Renal, Neurotoxicity, Hepatotoxicity, Cardiotoxicity... The problem is that DEHP is a phthalate, a forever chemical that is "very toxic and hazardous to organism health".Anyway, Summit is not interested in this, apparently. They say it is not their problem.Replace your kegerator hoses with something else (polyethylene, polypropy‐lene, polyurethane and other polyolefins, silicone, ethylene vinyl acetate, and multilayer laminate plastics).But avoid Summit. They don't seem to care.
