To remove the front struts from an early MK IV Jetta, this tool is essential and works very well. Definitely recommend!

This suspension strut socket performed like it was designed to do the one thing it was designed to do lol. It is an impact rated socket but I'm unsure how much faith I would put behind it if using an impact wrench. I chose to use just a regular socket wrench while using it. The open side deep socket is certainly an interesting take on this type of tool because the other version is the through hole socket wrench and sockets which I feel work a bit better because compared to the open side deep socket where after turning so much the inside tightening device always needs removed and returned to the prior insertion point compared to a through hole socket which once the socket wrench and socket are secured the upper tightening tool can continually do full rotations until tight. Comparisons aside this open side deep shock mounting socket did 100% get the job done with no issues so if you're needing to hold a bolt tight while also tightening an inner allen head bolt or whatever it may be give this socket a try.

This when found happened to b a very wise choice for an addition to the ol toolbox. This reviews for the 12-point '21mm' size in 1/2 drive. The sockets made of high quality - good fitment -has an easily viewable inscription imprinted on it AND withstands as its listing had stated (thou torque's listed in old style Newton Meters of 65-75 Nm). *To convert : 1 Nm is equivalent to 0.738 lb/ft - so thats around the 50 ft/lb mark - and 50's pretty impressive for a hogged out socket. Thus far its been used a few times without fail so the values there for its price point and do recommend as a good solid issue-free item. IF it does so happen to fail - (stayin under that 50 ft/lb of force) - will b sure to get back on here to add to the scribbles as to the how, why, and when - til then it works and works well.Added note : only better deal here would b their complete 6pc set offered.

I bought these to change out the front struts on an E82 BMW. To be fair, I haven't yet used it. But I'm realizing I might not be able to after all.I knew the stock BMW strut uses a 21mm nut, so I bought the 21 mm socket. However, I did not consider that the replacement strut might use a different size. There is no set standard. Apparently, Bilstein struts often, but not always, use a 22 mm nut. If so, I won't be able to use this to install them. You might think that I can still at least use it to remove the old ones, and that's true. But it's also not really necessary for removal. Since the struts are being disposed of anyway, there is no harm in using an impact for removal, obviating the need to counter-hold the inner shaft. It's really only on installation that you need to take care to hold the shaft, and where an impact wrench should be avoided at all costs. If you take care to get the size you are putting in, and not the one you are taking out, these could be useful. I have a pass-thru socket set - but like most it only goes up to 19 mm. I'm considering a stubby impact set, which have a wrench fitting at the base - but an impact may be too thick-walled to fit in the strut mount recess. Some people use vice-grips at the top of the shaft (which will always be under the bump-stop - but I'm not comfortable with that technique. A drawback of these sockets is that you can only turn the nut half a turn at a time, before you have to reposition your hex key (I don't think they can accommodate a ratchet with a hex bit). Hence four stars for expected functionality. But there are limited better alternatives (short of grinding down a socket), so I might be back for the correct size, once I know for sure what that is (i.e., once I physically have the new struts in hand).

I ordered the 21mm and I think it's great. You might as well order the whole set since it's cheaper per unit and you've got everything covered, IMO.

At least for me, one of the most frustrating parts of replacing shocks and struts is trying to get the strut nut secured and to do that, you often need to hold the nut in place which is impossible to do without a special tool. The design of this item is very simple, it has a cutout in the socket so you can hold the nut with pliers or whatever works for your application and tighten the nut without it spinning and not securing. It is made from what I believe is cobalt steel, so it should hold up to years of use.
