The yarn is the worst the strands separate mid stich causing knots. Instructions are not for beginners and the videos are not easy to follow. The kit was missing pieces. Will never buy this brand again. Definitely not good for beginners. I have tried another brand and got prefect results.

This didn't arrive until Christmas Eve, so I didn't get a chance to make it before Christmas, but I'll have it for next year. :) The kit is really nice. It has everything you need, plus a couple spares, just in case, of the eyes and the pompom. Plenty of yarn, too. The quality of the materials is fair. The yarn splits a lot, but it's pretty much par for the course with these kits. The written instructions are so well written I didn't need to find the videos. Someone with a rudimentary knowledge of crochet will be able to follow along easily. The little gingerbread man turned out soooo cute and pretty much how the picture looks, (except the candy cane, which is my issue, not the instructions.) I would recommend this kit to an intermediate to advance beginner for sure.

This kit is comparable to just about all the others out there on the market. The quality of the yarn is good and the instructions are easy to follow. I wouldn’t say this is a beginner crochet kit as it has multiple steps and is very intricate with detail. I have started it, but have not finished it. The holidays got busy with two kids (one being a Velcro baby) and I just haven’t been able to get back to it. I have completed the body and it was fairly easy to do. I like doing these as a side hobby when I have some free time because they are fun to do. The contents of the kit has everything you need to complete the design. Tutorials can be found online if you get stuck at any point. It does take practice to get even stitches and I recommend playing around with different sizes of crochet hooks. The one they provide is ok, but I prefer using my own.

It is a darling project, but not really for beginners.

I have many decades of crochet experience, but I found this "beginner's" kit too adorable to resist. And, it's not really a bad kit: everything you need is here but scissors. I would have preferred they had left out the cute straight pins and included a row counter instead. (THAT would have been handy.) There is a pretty complete general instruction booklet, and a two page flier specific to the gingerbread man.The yarn is a decent quality - not too much splitting, and though I usually work with a much larger hook, I really had no trouble with this. I'm not sure why the makers had you chaining one and joining with a slip stitch at the end of the round when most amigurumi patterns are worked in continuous rounds. I think that method would have proved easier for beginners, and saved a step. The instructions for joining the legs were a little unclear, as well. And, as far as the candy cane goes - I would recommend making the cane in white, then wrapping with red yarn. OR - just substitute a real or plastic one.My only other complaint? The g-man has much bigger eyes in the photo which makes him far more appealing than my finished product. So - with some minor quibbles, this is a pretty decent kit for the price. Probably NOT for beginners, however.

This starter kit is perfect for Christmas time and especially for beginners or those who have been doing crochet for a while. The quality of the contents is fantastic. The yarn doesn’t split or anything like that and it was actually easy to switch between colors my. The finished product is adorable and I think would make a great gift alone even if you didn’t give it as something to make but rather some you made. Either way it will be treasured for years to come!

Before unpacking this kit, I tried to read the two booklets included inside. The first shows you how to make each stitch (more on this later) and the other is the pattern for the gingerbread man pieces, and how to join them all together. After (trying to) read the pattern I found the writer does not use the “common terminology” used in most crochet stitch work. Because many writers of a new pattern will often ask for people to test a pattern to look for just this type of thing, I am thinking that this never happened with this pattern and the new crocheters are going to have a heck of a time trying to crochet their second item from a pattern, after this pattern teaches this way.Because I noted the many differences between this pattern’s terminology and the commonly accepted terminology for crochet, I decided to make a copy of the pattern so I could cross-off and re-write what needed to go there. At first, half the page was “fixed.” The half that was not fixed was because I could understand her. If I did what the pattern told me to do, I could not finish the row with the correct number of stitches at the end, and Amigurumi is BASED on the correct number of stitches in EVERY row!I finally had to give up with this kit, the way this pattern is written, and the way the instructions are given for its stitches. I consider myself an Intermediate Crocheter, but you beat me... Uncle. My final assessment of this Kit:- This kit comes with enough of everything you will need to complete your task, and all of the items you receive are of a medium to high quality. Nothing is wrong here.- If an expert level crocheter purchased this kit to make the toy for someone, he or she could do it, but would get angry at the amount of extra time he/she would need to make it. (Reading, rereading, translating, etc.)- A beginner would not be able to follow this pattern - I consider myself intermediate and could not figure out where she was taking me.- The light-colored yarn used in the printed tutorial portion of that booklet makes it almost too hard to see-along with the locations where the writer places her own identifiers and large arrows on top of the picture. All that said, there is nothing in crochet that bothers me more than anything sold for beginners and labeled for beginners, that is WAY TOO DIFFICULT FOR BEGINNERS!I give this kit two stars... only because all of the items in this kit are of such quality that they can be “upcycled” into something of value to the purchaser of this kit.
