Great budget mic. Good upgrade from Takstar SGC-598. In the picture, the foam is squished because of my windscreen haha

This mic would be great for making environment videos like nature and things like that but if you plan to use it for talking and mainly dialogue pieces I would not recommend it. no matter what you do the mic sounds far away and echoey and there is a LOT of noise and echo from the environment. I've tried everything premiere pro has to offer to clean up the audio and it just seems impossible. Like I said, it records the surrounding environment very well. This little mic has a lot of power, I just wouldn't recommend it for talking videos.

This is a pretty good mic - turn off your AC to avoid too much white noise. Also, make sure you've turned it on before recording. I've made that mistake and had to record my takes. It's a user error, but it's easy to forget when you're busy setting up.

This mic is phenomenal however my mic stopped working with my Iphone, I checked my adapter I checked my extension cable then I realized hey the stupid battery went out after one short use... I would advise just to buy brand new QUALITY batteries.. I only had my mic for a few weeks and my battery already went out. Besides that this mic is incredible, I use the mic for videos and short films and even the raw audio is impressive, not sure why there are some people saying they wish to make a better quality... It's a 30$ mic that sounds great... If you want professional grade PAY professional prices... UPDATE: So my mic stopped working again, I realized that the wire that comes out of the mic before you get to the coil will sometimes be kinda pulled out when twisting on mount, which stops the mic from working, make sure to always give that wire a little push ensuring it's making the proper connection. So issue wasn't the battery and the thing with the wire shouldn't happen hey its a 30$ mic not 300$ Another UPDATE: First Mic is still working great, I ended buying another one; they both work great!

I must first preface this review with the fact that I have never owned a shotgun mic before, so I have zero reference for similar comparison. I have lapel mics, however, so I can compare to those.First off, the mic is very light. It's up to you to decide how to take that. Light can mean "cheaply made" or it can mean "convenient". I use a Sony a6500, which is a smaller mirrorless camera, so I like the fact the mic is lightweight.Second, the mic uses batteries, which are standard AA size, I believe. The power is needed to turn the mic on, otherwise it picks up no sound. It's not like a lapel mic that just always works. The switches are on the back of the mic, and feel somewhat cheap. I've forgotten to switch the mic on before, and recorded an entire video with no sound.Third, the coiled cord which plugs into the camera is long enough for the mic to sit on top of another hot shoe mounted accessory. The mic also comes with a splitter that is intended to work with a cellphone and a pair of headphones, so that a live stream can be done, however the splitter doesn't work with my camera or cellphone.Lastly, this mic appears to need to be fairly close to the person speaking or to the source of sound. It seems perfect for vlogging if using a shorter focal length lens, under 24mm. Any farther, and it may pick up other room noises too much. These are simply my non professional opinions.Overall, I'm pretty happy with this little gem. Seems a great price, given some alternatives are well over double the price.

Not only did it arrive late, it doesn't even work. Power light comes on but it will NOT pick up any sound. I've tried it on 2 different video cameras and 2 different cell phones. Piece of crap. And yes, I know how to hook up and record audio and video. Stupid me threw away the box so I can't return it and I'm not spending anymore money to return it. Totally wasted my money.

This new Takstar really (for me) falls into that sweet spot of inexpensive enough, but good sound quality for the price that you pay. I work in a radio newsroom and will often take my camera out with me to record video and audio clips and this gives me good enough quality for man-on-the-street type shooting without having to lug around a bunch of expensive and heavy audio equipment. For someone just starting out, I easily recommend this microphone.
