I got this (along with an IRWIN tap handle) to clear out the threads on the undercarriage of the car, to install a receiver. U-Haul wanted $150 just to "rethread" the bolt holes. The tap, holder AND receiver on Amazon was less than that!Yes, I had to wait a day and do 5 minutes of work myself. Worth...every...penny.I haven't had to use this again, but if I do, I'm sure it will perform well in the future. Solid tool, will definitely buy again from this vendor and brand (IRWIN and Channel Lock both rock).

Worked great for my needs. Used twice and is holding strong. Can’t beat the ease of shipping through amazon and competitive pricing.

I'm guessing many are using this for the same thing I did- to clean out the threads on a Toyota to install a trailer hitch. Took some work to figure out how to get it up under the car to the threads with the muffler and other stuff in the way. Couldn't find a handle that could do that. Ended up with in a deep well socket (9mm I think, maybe 8mm, 1/4" drive) to hold this tap, attached to an extension (held together with a piece of duct tape) and a breaker bar. Squirt in WD40, feed in in the threads carefully, 1/8 twist back and fourth, back and fourth. Take your time. You don't want to break it off in the hole. Eventually all six threaded holes were cleaned out.

OK for minor thread repair but not for significant thread repair or new tapped holes (taper tap required).

I had to tap the frame of my 2009 Nissan Rogue to take the hitch I bought and some of the threads were bad. Bought this tap and everything went swimmingly! My father-in-law said that it would snap. Never did break. Good and sharp!

I have an 11-year old Honda Pilot with 220000 miles on it. The old lady has been driving great her whole life, so I decided to put her to the test by attaching a trailer hitch and 8x10 trailer to haul my new lawn tractor around. Got underneath and, not surprisingly, found her bolt holes clogged with rust and debris. Being the human equivalent of an 85-year old woman, you can't blame her for having clogged up rusty holes, but in this case it was preventing me from attaching the new trailer hitch. Nothing I did would help - I tried lube, hole-cleansing devices, and even a blowtorch.Enter the CHANNELLOCK INC 8342ZR 12mmx1.25 metric tap. The tapered tip was able to penetrate just enough to get firmly situated in the bolt hole opening, then with gentle but consistent pressure, the hardened carbon 12mm x 1.25 thread slowly but smoothly worked its way further inwards. The perfectly positioned tap grooves gracefully channeled years of accumulated gunk out of the way as the tap penetrated further into the recesses of her cast aluminum frame.I could practically back the tap out by hand, she was so clean afterwards, her threads glistening with a silver sheen of aluminum like the day she came off the assembly line. The brass 12mm x 1.25 thread bolts went in without so much as a squeak or wobble and the trailer hitch is now snugly mated up against her underbelly, waiting to take on the full load of the trailer.

What can I say? It's a tap and it works fine.
