Since a lot of stocks are a little short for me, I appreciate the usefulness of an add-on recoil pad (not to mention the recoil reducing aspect). Most of the pads I've used are slip-on rubber pads. They work, but don't enhance the beauty of a fine rifle or shotgun. This pad, on the other hand, is really nice. Even my wife said it looked really good. It does cover up most of the butt stock, so probably not a pad you'll want to use on a AAA French walnut stock or similar, but it does look great over a plainer piece of wood. Getting it on the stock takes a little effort, as you'll need to unlace or significantly loosen the lacing on the bottom of the butt stock cover, then lace it up once it's on the rifle or shotgun. There are also a couple of small screws used to join the two leather straps together, which creates a great sling attachment point. Once in place, this stock cover/butt pad is very comfortable. Having the extra ammo loops on the side is a nice touch as well. This stock cover/butt pad works quite well on straight stocks without a cheek piece, but won't work with monte carlo stocks or stocks with cheek pieces. At any rate, this butt pad looks great, feels great, and should last a very long time, as the leather quality appears to be quite excellent.
