I'll be using this clip as a backup for the clips I normally use for trolling for fish on Lake Michigan. I typically use these to carry my line down deep into the water with this release attached to downrigger weight in hopes of catching some King Salmon. The release is squeezed towards the back which opens the yellow jaws on the front far enough to allow the placement of the fishing line from you rod and reel. Typically, a metal shower curtain ring is used to attach the black back side to the downrigger weight. When the fish takes the bait it pulls the line out of the release and the fight is on to bring the fish into the boat.

I got this release clip because I do quite a bit of trolling and lose the odd clip now and then. This is a replacement to the ‘fleet’ of clips. I normally use the Canadian brand and this clip compares favorably.The area when one squeezes is a little closer to the yellow end, but seems to squeeze easier. The clip has about the same grip and is adjustable by locating the line deeper or shallower in the yellow pads.The strength of the grip can also be adjusted by moving the black connector clip out, but be careful, mine fell off the first time I tried. But it was easily replaced. This clip can be attached directly with a shower curtain clip, to a monofilament line to line clip or to a downrigger weight; or course with a steel leader instead of mono.I’d recommend getting a couple so you can have some consistency from clip to clip.
