Update: failing after about 8 uses, now 2 stars. After working well for a couple of years (though not many hours in operation), the thruster now makes a loud rattling sound when I turn it on. I am unaware of how this happened -- I used it last 6 months ago and everything was fine. I've contacted the manufacturer (diamonddynamics.com) and the international retailer (hobbywater.com) to ask for support. If I get it will update it.I shopped around quite a bit before buying this to boost my Sea Eagle 420x inflatable kayak. The negative reviews on durability made me reluctant, but I couldn't find a good alternative that allowed me to use a battery of my choice. So far it has worked well with a 12 volt 100 ah lipo4 battery. On medium setting it produces roughly the thrust of a moderately strong paddler, and will run all day -- probably would last about 24 hours with this battery. On high speed, 12 volts, it performs like a strong paddler, and makes up for the non paddling dog or lets me lily dip and still make miles. In sunny climates it's reasonable to recharge with portable solar panels, so can in theory go for weeks (have done 6 days).I was concerned about the durability of the plastic prop, but it is protected by the skeg I mounted it on, and the occasional running aground on gravel bars hasn't damaged it yet.I expect the fact I run it on 12 rather than 24 volts is protective, but that's just a guess. I might look at the more expensive units from this company if it continues to hold up. So far so good.

Used this last year in Lake Tahoe. Almost a year later I tried running it and the thruster is seized up. The motor definitely isn’t meant to be in the water since it rusts easily and isn’t properly coated for use in water.

I bought two for my wife’s and mine. Both worked great the first time. Nether one of them would work the second time. Hoping this reaches someone who can help. Too expensive to work only one time.

I now wish I would have purchased the salt water one. I purchased this for my wife and she loves it. I love seeing the smile on her face when she hits the throttle or when the others in our group say she’s cheating.

The motor worked for about 15 minutes. Now it's dead and completely unresponsive. It's past the return window and I'm waiting to hear back from the seller.Edit: The seller was quick to send out a replacement. Excellent customer service!

Very easy to install on a paddle board fin. Took 5 minutes to drill holes and screw in the bolts. It should work on just about any paddle board or other fin.Has 3 speeds.Connected it to two LiFePo4 18AH Batteries at 24v and it runs at about 4mph. Measured it using a GPS on my phone. Feels pretty fast while on the paddle board on the lake.It also runs with just 1 Battery at 12v, but slower, about half the speed. With a single 18AH battery, was about to get about 50 minutes of continuous run time on it.

This was a horrible product. From the beginning, it would stop and you have to press the button to get it working...Then after less than a week, it just stops working no matter what you press on the remote. I did think it will be the same if I choose to replace it so I return it.

MOST RECENT: Disregarding my 1st review, after about less than 15 trips of using it, September 10th the ESC went out. Does not beep nothing when plug onto battery. Tested for voltage and ground all is good. Power before Driver box shows voltage going in whether that be 12volts or 24 volts, on the other end on same wire lost 2 voltage. Believed the Driver box is broken/malfunction. Does not beep no sound when connected to Battery. Asked seller if I could get a Driver box replacement, did not answer my question regarding that part. So now I have to look for a waterproof ESC/Driver box and rewire it in to make it work... Didn't last long, only less than 15 outings.Purchased first one, Loved it. Purchased another one, Loved it even more. Mounted both on my Inflatable Stand Up Paddle Board fin and this thing goes fast. Powered with 12volts or 24volts. Any voltage in between works as well, of course the more voltage you get to 24 volts, the faster it'll go. Able to clock in 8mph using GPS while on fastest speed. Have towed two Kayakers full equipment in their Kayaks(200 lbs + 200lbs) behind me as well with just one motor, cruising at 2mph. Great stuff. On those days when you don't want to paddle back, just cruise back from a long trip 10-20 miles lakes/rivers.
