About this item

  • High-index glasses to improve the edge-field performance
  • Fully multicoated
  • Parfocal
  • Rubber Eyeguards, Grip Rings, Filter Threads,
  • Blackened Lens Edges, Saftey undercuts

Diffraction limited "on-axis" performance is a given. Using more expensive high-index glasses to reduce astigmatism and lateral color at the field's edge, Tele Vue Plossls deliver sharper images than any other brand of 4 or 5 element "Plossl" or Orthoscopic designs. The faster the focal ratio of your telescope, the greater your visual reward for using Tele Vue eyepieces. Tele Vue Plossls feature full multicoatings for greatest light transmission and contrast. Blackened lens edges and internal anti-reflection threads tweak the last bit of contrast for maximum image detail. The sharper field focuses faint star light into perceptible points and allows those with undriven mounts to gaze longer before repositioning the image.

I replaced my 25mm Meade eyepiece that came with my Meade Telescope with the Tele Vue 20mm. The Tele Vue provides a much crisper, clearer, sharp view. It does not matter how much you paid for your telescope, if you don't have a quality eyepiece you don't take advantage of the aperture width of your telescope.

I wanted a few quality eyepieces without breaking the bank and this fits the bill, I also purchased the 15 mm Plossl. Excellent, clear, eyepiece. Much better than the Celestron kit eyepieces, not that those are bad, but this is a case of you get what you pay for.

I bought this eyepiece to replace the 20mm Kellner that came with my 102mm Celestron telescope. The eyepiece is of high quality construction, and disassembles for cleaning the lenses, which is a nice feature. The eye relief and FOV were an improvement over the Kellner, but the actual image quality was only marginally improved, barely enough to be noticeable. Still, a good upgrade for the price. After hearing all the hype about Televue Plossls I guess I set my expectations a bit high, but it's still a very good eyepiece for the price, and the construction quality is very good. Will be looking to get more televue products in the future.

Excellent quality. Gave new life to my ancient Coulter 13.5 inch Dobsonian.

Excellent EP, I should have purchased this first. The views are clear and crisp. I use this EP in my SCT and APO scopes...

I am using Tele Vue Plossl 20mm as a reverse lens for extreme macro photography. Basically, you need to place additional lenses in front of photo camera primary lens and adjust the distance between them. My favorite combination for high magnification photography is Lumix TS3/TS4 and Tele Vue Plossl 20mm. This setup gives about the same magnification as Canon MP-E 65mm 5x Macro lens and it's ten times cheaper. With this improvised macro setup (Lumix TS3/TS4 and Tele Vue Plossl 20mm) you can take high resolution videos as well, like ants under high magnification [...]

There's no question that Televue makes a great plossl. I have nothing negative to say about this, and am happy with my purchase. However, some people might be reluctant to spend this much (which is why I went with four stars). As an alternative, there are some very decent plossls at a fraction of this price. A few years ago I got the Sterling 17mm, which provides very good viewing (I can't tell the difference between the view with the Televue and the Sterling, but that might say more about my old eyes than about the optics).Anyway, if money's no object and you simply have to have the best, the Televue will never disappoint you. But if you don't have the ability to discern between the top eyepiece and the view in a budget plossl, save your money and go cheap.

This is a wonderful eyepiece by TeleVue and one of my favorite that I turn to for medium-ish power views of the night sky.Pros: The eyepiece is very clear, offers very high contrast, no apparent distortion or aberrations, and is a great mid-power eyepiece (depending on the focal length of your scope in millimeters divided by your eyepiece focal length in millimeters--typically 300x power is considered max for atmospheric conditions, but be sure to check with your telescope's manufacturer). Although the field is about 50° with this eyepiece, the fact that it has less internal elements than wide-field eyepieces means that objects will be brighter (typically) with a Plössl like this. I own and use 11mm, 15mm, 20mm, 25mm, and 32mm Plössls by TeleVue and they outperform any Plössl out there. It is definitely worth a bit more to go higher-end eyepiece, especially since it is a purchase you'll only make once-- eyepieces don't really wear out if handled properly. :-) I've used this eyepiece for wonderful views of the moon and constellations. You can boost it's power with a Barlow, which is what I sometimes do, adding to it's versatility. I use this eyepiece often on a Orion XT8 and it is simply excellent.Cons: The eye relief on this 20mm is pretty good. I don't wear glasses, but this eyepiece might be useable for those who do. If you do wear glasses, however, Plössls like this may not be right for you and you should probably go with a TeleVue Radian (or similar longer-length eyepieces). (The Radians are excellent eyepieces in their own right, but typically run about $180-$250. Other than that, it's hard to think of something that detracts from this eyepiece. It is not a wide-field eyepiece, but then again Plössls aren't wide field--it's just the nature of their design.Overall: An excellent mid-power eyepiece that will blow away most any Plössl that came with your telescope and probably most Plössls in the aftermarket. To give you a sense of their value and quality, TeleVue includes a Plössl with their $3000+ refractors that they sell. :-)Thanks!
