There is very little stretch in the material. The seam at the hip does not stretch much. The seam at the waist seems fine, but I couldn't get it over my behind. It's also very tight at the ankles. The material is 50% Merino wool, and 50% polyester. I would have suggested adding some spandex. They're very thin, would be best as a base layer only. They would likely be see through.

I was so pleased with the quality and feel of the Terramar merino thermal pants that I ordered two more to use as lightweight base layers on an upcoming vacation. I am 5'6" and weigh 138 lbs. and ordered the large which was a slightly loose fit but comfortable.

The pants seem well made, though the fabric is way too thin for the % of wool (50) and has nearly 0 stretch (when the fabric is that thin and doesn't stretch I'd expect at least 90% wool). On the label, it says the pants are "level 1" meaning that they're best for hotter weather or high intensity workout in slightly cooler weather, so the thinness of the material makes sense.Unfortunately: 1) the level and/ or thickness of the pants were not listed on the site, and 2) I find "level 1" (or thinner wool fabrics) completely pointless (even for layering) as the thin material wears out and becomes useless after only a few uses. *I have comfortably worn slightly thicker merino wool pants, shirts, and socks in 100°+ F weather (thinner does not necessarily mean better, for extreme heat).Now, for fit...I ordered a Medium (my usual size). The waist band is not made for large hips and is incredibly unflattering on me (so prob for anyone with larger hips). They're also not as high waisted as appears in the product photo.I like how snug it is everywhere except the waist and hips. Maybe a Large would have fit my hips better (but then it would be baggier in all the wrong places too).The fabric is an okay level of softness. On a 1-10 scale of soft to scratchy (1 being really soft and 10 really scrathcy), I'd say it's a 3.
