TIPS FOR USE While each hen reacts differently to the sensation of an object on her back, many will attempt to flee from it. Attaching the Hen Mating Saddle is best done at night. Sleeping with the saddle on allows the hen time to become familiar with the sensation. Unfasten saddle’s snaps then get hen from roost. From a seated position, place hen in lap with head facing you and legs dangling between yours. Rest her keel on your lap without squeezing her body. Hold legs securely by squeezing gently between yours. Place saddle denim side down on hen’s back allowing elastics to drape over top of wings alongside her neck. While holding end of first elastic, lift one wing slightly and bring snaps to meet on underside of saddle. Secure both snaps. Repeat procedure with second elastic on opposite side. Return hen to roost. Saddle should be worn continuously until feathers have re-grown. Hens are able to dust bathe and preen normally while wearing a Hen Mating Saddle.

Easy to put on and well made. I kept this on my hen for months and it never came off until I took it off. It fit comfortably and securely and allowed her to heal while still living with our lusty rooster. I felt like the material was thick enough to protect her and last without being so thick that it got too hot for her to wear. I only wish there were more colors to choose from. It was dusty after use, so I tossed it in a gentle cycle in the washer and then air dried and it came out like new.

I purchased 3 and received them on May 23, 2024. Out of the 3 only one works, the other 2 have bad snaps that won't stay connected. It will cost me more to return them than what I originally paid. The quality of the saddles look good so why on earth install cheap snaps and inconvenience someone? I should have purchased a less expensive saddle and used diaper pins.

I just fitted this product to one of our Orphingtons. I did it at night, so the hen was cooperative and the snaps made the job very easy. This morning she seems perfectly happy with her new garment, and I like it too -- well designed, well made, should be effective and should stand up to wear and tear. I'm buying another. Thanks, Chicken Chick!

I do not want to write the review, but I don't see a way to exchange the malfunctioning saddles. For the most part the saddles are designed well and made well. However, of the 12 I ordered Jan-Feb 2024, 3 are now unuseable due to the same snap on all 3 not staying snapped. That is a 25% failure rate within the first 30 days. It is obviously a manufacturing issue. The top snap on the right side, when looking from the underside of the saddle is the consistant point of failure on all 3. I'd like to just have them replaced with new saddles because they are easy to put on the girls don't seem to mind them.

I started to purchase some cheaper ones in bulk and realized I’d better spend the money once and not have to repurchase. So glad I did. Might need to order two more. Thank you for making a great product!

Material is thick but it doesn't cover high enough on my hen so she is now losing feathers a but higher from the rooster.

Great fit & easy to put on. I love how it protects the hens back& wings. My hen had a bald sore on her wing and this saddle did not irritate it. The only negative comment I have is the price. Most people have multiple hens & it could get really expensive.

I will be honest, I thought these saddles were a bit silly until I saw the damage my roo’s spurs have done to two of my girls. One has broken feathers and big bald patches on her wings and the other is bald under her wings and she had a puncture wound from his spurs. I am glad these protect the the hen’s wings in addition to their backs. The camo pattern is a nice touch. My girls didn’t have a fit at all when I put them on and they don’t seem to have any issues going about their normal chicky activities. These are great, I wash them regularly. This is the second one I have purchased, the first was over a month ago, so they do hold up nicely.
