The price and build quality are great but the functionality lacks when sizing larger nuts.

not enough space on the larger bolts to check nuts, no space between each bolt

I have several "thread Checkers" but the Muscovite really is the best, wide range and easy to use.

I hate having to go to the local hardware store and try to find the size of a nut or bolt. It’s a big waste of time, and so when I saw this, I thought it would be super handy to have around the garage, so I could know in advance what size(s) I needed. This thing is awesome – in theory. The holes are great, and I tried a few different bolts I had lying around (most of which I didn’t know the size for), and I was able to figure out which size they were pretty easily. The problem arises in the mounted bolt ends with which you’re supposed to find the size of a nut. Unfortunately, there isn’t enough space between the bolts to screw on the nuts enough to size them. At best you have to eyeball them. This is a pretty big “miss” and renders the until slightly more than 50% as usable as it should be. With just a little extra planning, this could have been an awesome addition to my tools. As it is, though I will keep it, it’s not as useable as I had hoped.Overall, I can’t really recommend this. Everything about it is quality, but it’s just not useable about half the time.

I really like and it get's the job done. I have tested this with some known threads and everything is smooth to put on / off. The only criticism I have is that it would be nice if there were more holes to mount the gauge. Atm it just has a single hole that is made to hang, but I want to fix it permanently. I just drilled a hole, but would be nice if it came with more options there.

This well-made product can check a wide variety of different sizes of nuts and bolts. The base plate is printed legibly with all of the available sizes of threads that can be checked. However, because the plate is made from what seems to be aluminum rather than hard steel, you can’t run a damaged bolt through the correct hole in order to try and realign its threads. That could damage the threads of the test holes that were cut into this soft, aluminum plate. (I do have other thread checkers, made of STEEL, that I can use to fix the threads of smaller bolts).Likewise, you cannot easily use these attached bolts to try and realign the inside threads of a damaged nut. Not because the sample bolts aren’t strong enough (they are made of steel), but because many of these pieces are loose, and unscrew themselves easily from the base. It’s better to just use this product as intended; to simply identify what size of bolt fits a particular nut.A bunch of these bolts, however, are SOLIDLY cemented in place with some kind of thread locker. Which is mostly a good thing—EXCEPT for the fact that many pieces are screwed in so far down that their ends PROTRUDE out of the bottom of the baseplate. You don’t want to place this thread checker on a nice workbench surface—much less your kitchen counter, or living room table—because the protruding bolts will scratch its surface.I tried backing off all of the bolts a little; enough so that the bottoms would be totally flush and flat to the base. But, many of the bolts were not able to be moved at all, without also sustaining some damage to their threads in the attempt.I may just have to glue a set of small rubber feet underneath, to lift everything up just enough so nothing gets scratched. That’s why I deducted one star.

For any DYI person who has a collection of miscellaneous nuts and bolts, this is a must have for your workshop. It's rugged and made of heavy duty aluminum. You can easily identify the common SAE and Metric sizes. A lot of DYI folks have a large collection of nuts and bolts. In the past when I needed a bolt for a project, I have spent considerable time searching through the collection. With this tool I can quickly identify the bolt I'm trying to match. Definitly recommend
