With this filter, highlight flares are controlled, contrast is lowered, but with less lightening of shadows for a more delicate effect and it also creates a soft light "pastel" effect. This is a very delicate effect with contained highlight flare. A slight warming is achieved with the addition of Tiffen's exclusive 812 filter for perfect skin tones or warming effects. This Hollywood/FX filters was originally designed for the TV and Motion Picture industry, but are now available to all photographers and videographers.

I feel a little bad giving this a three-star rating because the only fault with it is that I didn't really know what I was looking for. It works exactly as advertised, but I ended up buying a regular Black Pro-Mist because I found I liked controlling the temperature either in-camera or in post better than having this filter. But after really giving it my best shot, I feel like almost ANYONE would be better off going that route. Marginally recommended but it definitely limits your options more than the regular one.

Used these for a couple of years with a variety of lenses, both this 'warm' version and the regular black pro mist. These 'warm' ones are fantastic for any non-corporate portraits, smoothing and enriching all skin tones of any kind — even when shooting in monochrome black & white — and both the warm and regular black pro mist are good for adding some halation and taking the edge off of modern lenses' sharpness and contrast, in a controlled way. (I use these filters on lenses with APS-C and 35mm digital bodies alongside a Mamiya RZ67 Pro II medium format camera without these filters, and they end up looking nearly identical.) The 1/4 strength is perfect for constant everyday use, and the 1/2 is great for times when you really want to push the soft look. Very hard to recommend the higher strengths, though, as they quickly overpower your photos' content, and the 1/8th strength is so weak you may as well not bother.Having used them before I knew exactly what to expect when ordering this one, and indeed, it's the same as all the others. Amazon just happens to have become the cheapest source for them at the time of this purchase.(All these effects can be mostly reconstructed using digital editing, but mist filters are handy if you're like me and are bored of Photoshop and prefer to just nail the look when you shoot, instead of afterwards.)
