Good looking hat. Definitely for adults. The system with the strings (more like shoelaces) threaded through the holes seems awkward at first, because usually you just leave that stuff inside the hat when you put it on. But in a strong enough wind that can be useful to keep it on. This is the kind of hat that's comfortable enough that you almost forget you're wearing it, but it keeps the sun out of your eyes, keeps your hair from blowing in the wind too much, and looks like a classic 'cowboy hat' with a sort of timeless style.

Bought a second one cause I love it so much. Quality uniform hemp textile keeps me confident this hat will last me a long long time. Even if it doesn’t, the Tilly warranty on this hat promises me it’ll be ok

Perfect fit. Nice and light, great for all summer activities. Love the mocha color. The item, shipped in a plastic bag, arrived strongly ruffled. As suggested by other buyers, just had to wet the brim then gently iron it at medium heat. Came back to life. Great buy.

I always wanted a genuine Tilley and decided to purchase the TH5 Hemp, based on looks and reviews.I ordered using the sizing guide and got a perfect fit.I am very impressed with the comfort and quality. The rim isn't overly large and not as floppy as some other hats.I was also surprised that it seems cooler in the sun then my Barmah Squashy which has full mesh sides

What's not to like? Tilly are reliable and hard wearing. This one is ideal for summer, with highish crown and good ventilation. Not very waterproof, but who needs rain protection in an English summer? Plus, I use my original Tilly for wet days and my winter one for cold weather. Look no further than this brand

What a great hat. Looks better around town than the Airflow hat, which I use for hiking. This Hemp Hat has a great texture, is stiff enough to maintain shape without being too stiff or too floppy. Chin strap hides away easily. The brim is just the right width to offer protection. This hat works perfect for a rainy day or for a sunny day. I keep it in the car for those unexpected times when I need to be outside for a while. The taller crown is not overkill, and it keeps the head a little cooler. Highly recommended.

OK, I will come clean and readily admit - I probably own too many Tilley hats!! I have always liked the fact that Tilley hats come sized to fit - as someone with a hard to fit, kind of large head, the "One Size Fits Most" and "S, M, L, XL" tags usually means the hat is not going to fit me. Since Tilley offers hats in 1/8 sized increments is one up on most hat makers - then the fact that the quality, workmanship, materials, etc are second to none results in a hat that is hard to pass up!! So... due to this, I own five different Tilley hats which I use for different endeavors such as yardwork, casual wear, hiking, boating....What makes the hemp stand out? Well, the mere fact it is made out of a natural material, and not nylon or other synthetic, is already a plus for me. Then, the fact it has a unique characteristic of being a HEMP hat, and then a hemp hat with style and made so well..... that is a nice combination. Then, couple that with a hat that wears so comfortably in most climates - even warmer weather - as the Hemp seems to breath better than the Tilley cotton duck hats, and definitely better than their Nylon offerings. (my head temp runs way too hot for most Nylon hats, mesh panels or not). Finally, the Hemp hat has a nice stiff brim that holds its shape, and the dome will also hold its shape nicely if you want it to and take care not to store it crushed, etc. Note - if you are one to stuff this hat in your pack, it will come out wrinkled - look at Tilley hemp hats like those Linen garments you wear - they look great when you care for them, keep them pressed - but will look frumpy and wrinkled if treated as such.Bottom line - as a Tilley T3, T5MO and other Tilley hat owner, it took me a long time to try out the Tilley Hemp offerings. Now that I did, I am sold. It also offers a unique look compared to the basic Khaki, Olive colors, and it is a hat I can easily wear out to the store, or any other casual settings. The hat has a nice appeal, and even my wife has noted how much she likes it... after initially being sure she was going to hate it!!If you already own a Tilley hat of the Cotton or Nylon variety - consider this hat if you are looking for a different look and feel, but still want the Tilley quality. If you are new to Tilley and thinking of the Hemp as your FIRST hat, ask yourself what you are going to use it for, and if this type of hat is for you. IMHO, these type of hats are more of an "acquired taste" and one has to be prepared for the pro / con for this type of hat - for instance, if you like your hats to always have that pressed, clean and pristine look, with no wrinkles then the Th5 may not be for you. Sure, you can maintain it with a clean, unwrinkled look, but you will always have to be cognizant of how you store it. However, if you are looking for a versatile, all weather hat for hiking - I would say there are other hats more tailored to the weather that fit the bill better for that endeavor. For instance, in warm weather hiking, a T5MO or T4MO in organic cotton might be the ticket for you - or even a Nylon hat with mesh cooling panels if you are one that can withstand nylon on your head in warm weather (I cannot). Some swear by the hemp hat for warm weather hiking too, so YMMV. Then, for more mild weather hiking, you might consider a hat of the cotton duck, or waxed cotton variety.... or even this hemp hat. It is one of the most versatile Tilley hat in terms of suitability for most dry weather climates - and why it sells so well! As far as wet and rainy conditions.... I say forget it, there are clearly better choices out there. The Hemp holds water, period. So in summary, if the hat fits, and you are someone that does not mind a Hemp hat - I say give it a try!!! I did and love it!EDIT: One thing to note - it took me two attempts on Amazon to buy this hat - the first time not only was the wrong style hat shipped in the wrong size (I was shipped a T4 in 7 1/4) and in a TH5 bag - but the hat was shipped completely flattened and stored so long that way that I deemed it beyond repair for my collection. So if you get one shipped poorly, you could contact the seller and try again. Also note - Tilley hats being slightly wrinkled / mis-shaped during shipping is not a disaster - if you mist / wet the hats, they are easily re-shaped and the wrinkles removed. I typically periodically mist and reshape my hats when I think they need a pep up - I also have a couple of those department store Styrofoam heads that help me during the process so the hat can dry on something shaped like a head!! It really helps...

First of all, the hat is much softer than I expected. The inner headband is extremely soft and feels great. The shape of the hat is perfect. My wife likes it on me and she usually hates hats on me.For size, I ordered one size up from my usual fitted baseball hat size. This worked perfect for me because the hat stays on by more than just gravity, but it is nice and loose. I don't need the shoelace if I pull the hat down snug. The reason I gave four stars is because the shoelace system bothers me. This is my first Tilley hat, and I don't like the fact that when not using the shoelace, the wearer is expected to just drop the lace into the hat. I don't like the feeling of a big shoelace just resting on my head whenever I wear the hat in calm weather. If you try to stuff the lace into the secret pocket, it is too bulky. If you simply remove the shoelace, you are left with two empty grommets and it looks weird. My solution was to run the lace around the outside of the hat and tie a bow in the back. I am happy with this solution because I have the shoelace just in case, and the bow in the back gives the hat a nice casual sporty look. I posted a picture.Overall, this hat is a winner. Buy with confidence.

2003 I bought my first Tilley T4 cotton hat. I wore it on all of my Missouri float trips which is still going strong, 11 years later. Since living in Florida, the suns heat is far more intense and thought the straw hat would be the way to go. They were ok but nowhere near the comfort of a Tilley. I read here, the hemp hat is lighter, stronger and breathes better. After reading all of these reviews here, I decided to get one. Taking the chance that this one would fit as good as my old one. Luckily it did. The quality Tilley builds into these hats are far above any other hat out there. And I must say as others do, follow Tilley's instructions, as these hats will mold to your head with time and washing them will shrink them down a little. Plus I did try the trick one reviewer wrote about wearing the strap a different way... Tuck the chin strap up in the hat and use the knotted strap to run under your chin then tuck behind the ears and adjust accordingly to your comfort. That method proved itself when one wave at Daytona beach broke over me and the hat stayed on my head! Later that afternoon, I got comfortable and tucked that strap back into my hat and one wave caught me and knocked my hat right off. Lesson learned. LOL. I am so glad I bought this hat. I will never wonder if there's anything out there better. Read the other reviewers words and I must say, I couldn't agree more.
