Fixed the plastic insert in a high dollar Canon Camcorder in about two minutes. I don't own the special tool, but figured I didn't need it to install it in soft plastic. Basically, I screwed a bolt in about 4 turns, then locked it with a jam nut. This allowed me to thread it in. Then I released the jam nut and ran the bolt to the bottom. This locked it in solid. It extended about 1/8 above the base of the camcorder, so I used some good liquid epoxy to build up the base. This also locked it in solid. No way this is coming out-ever.

I used these inserts to replace a brass factory tripod mount in plastic. Not what they were designed for, but I got it to work, turning them in with a 1/4-20 screw, after filing them down to the length I needed. Because the inside threads and outside threads are aligned (requires great precision in machining), it allows these parts to be machined with thinner sidewalls, which was exactly what I needed to do the job. They are so nicely made, they actually look good, which I didn't expect. Quality stainless steel construction. Thanks!
