This is way better than using the tailstock, just make sure you align it and set it up before you put your part in the chuck/collet.I also cut a groove in the end of the dowel pin to make it easier to pull out with oily hands

Very nice piece would work very well on a lathe bigger than mine, but I am very happy with it.

It's pretty convenient if you need to do some peck-drilling, instead of the slow method with the usual tailstock. The alignment pin stored in the body is a nice touch, but they should've added a little groove to the pin so you can get it out with oily fingers. It's almost impossible as provided. I added a little groove with a Dremel cut off wheel and now it's great. What were they thinking?You can leave it set up for later re-use as long as you remember your two feed dial settings and don't loosen the angle adjustment on your cross slide. If you have the dials set on zero, that part's easy. If you ever adjust the angle on the cross slide or the relative position of the tool post, immediately reach over and loosen the screws on this chuck so you don't forget and re-use it unaligned later....

I am very impressed with the quality of this chuck and the rest of the tool. While the specs indicate it will close down to 1/32" it actually closes to zero. I have a number of drill chucks for machine tools, including a couple of Albrecht's from Germany. This item is as well made as any of them; better than most.

Nice drill chuck, like the idea not having to use tail stock, but tail stock is always aligned.
