Over 8 years ago, I tried one of these on my leaf vacuum, and was amazed by how fine it shreds the leaves. Eight years later, the ring has been worn down, causing leaves to not be shredded as warranted. With the new ring, back to reducing leaf debris volume by over 50%. Best investment ever.

I REALLY wanted to like this add-on.I use my Toro exclusively for leaf cleanup. I don't use the leaf blower option at all, since I have a seperate battery powered one that's just more convenient. But the leaf vacuum/mulcher of the Toro has been a life saver! One of the best yardwork purchases I've made. If my Toro ever breaks, I'll replace it with another one just like it.It's not perfect, but it does a great job.One of the issues I have with it, is that the big leaves in my yard can tend to get bound up in the chute. So I thought this might be a good solution, and make a great yard tool, perfect!Boy was I disappointed! If the slightest thing gets caught on the little teeth, the entire thing gets clogged SOLID in a matter of seconds. Then you have to stop, disconnect the chute from the unit, and push the clogged wad all the way back through the opening. When I do leaf cleanup, I gather all the leaves into a big row, and run over it with the lawn mower first, to chop it up into smaller bits.Still, this thing gets clogged every 30 seconds or so.Maybe some people will have better luck with this, but I can't recommend it at all.Sadly, I had to wait a couple of months after purchasing it, before I had a chance to use it.So I can't return it.If you do decide to give it a try, do so quickly. If it works for you, GREAT! If not, return it asap.

The Toro 51662 Shredz-All Shred Ring worked as a decent upgrade to the original tube that came with my blower, , doing a better job of shredding leaves. I got this as a temporary solution, so I could put leaf much on my flowerbeds this past fall (2020), because I had just moved in and haven't been able to mulch yet. I was able get (fairly) dry oak leaves down to a pretty fine size by double-shredding them. Overall, I think it worked as a pretty good alternative to buying a dedicated leave mulcher, since I'm probably only going to do it this one time.

This does a good job of shredding what you are vacuuming up, however, the material must be absolutely dry. As I started using the product I found that if there is any moisture in the pickup material that it will collect around the shredder and block up the suction fairly quickly. As the material builds up on the shredder it loses its ability to shred. It also creates a crust on the shreeding teeth if not removed immediately, and is a pain to remove at a later date.

I have an old 51598 probably from sears in 2007.. still runs great (toro = toyota) but pretty impossible to buy parts for. Tried this one and unfortunately didn't fit. BUT with a few modifications and some rubber bands, you can jimmy-rig this to work just fine. Good material and quality nonetheless

Believe the hype. I've been a fan of the Toro electric leaf blower/vacs for many years, but this device takes the efficiency of our Toro blower/vac to a whole new level. With the new piece installed leaves are shredded to the size of confetti. They are shredded so fine we are recycling them as mulch rather than hauling them to the dump for recycling.

I accidently damaged the previous attachment and was just desperately looking to replace the funnel without having to purchase the entire motor assembly as well! So when I saw this, I was relieved. I say that there seemed to be an added advantage in what then called a "shred ring," but to be honest, I wasn't paying much attention. I just needed a replacement! When it arrived, I opened the box to find the attachment inside. I looked at the "Shred ring" and I quickly fond that it did not move at all! I couldn't imagine how it would help seeing that it was stationary and would not move like a blade would. How can this help, I thought if it doesn't rotate? It was then that I attached it to my machine and got to work. I still didn't think much of the special "shred ring" until I caught hold of a group of leaves that had stuck together and clogged the machine. However, in clearing the funnel, I noticed that when the leaves were being sucked into the blade from the outside walls of the funnel because of the centrifugal force involved in the vacuum! Around and around they go, pushing themselves against the side of the tube right into the path of the "shred ring" with its immovable teeth! There was no avoiding those teeth, and with the force of suction on them and the rotation, I realized that the teeth were chewing the leaves into smaller bits even before the main propeller blade even got a chance!I really saw why those teeth did not need to move; I thought at that time that it was so simple it was genius! Of course, nothing is perfect, but it does do a better job on mulching the thin leaves, and this, of course, may save the longevity of the blade in time, I hope!S
