Not easy but not hard to install
- Easy assembly, with help from product manual.
- Drilling the frame was the hardest part, but if you have a good power drill, with sharp new
drill bits you will have no problem, didn't have to take the bumper off, jack the car up or
remove the tires. Once you level the plate front to back, just use the lower bolts to hold it
tight and clamp the rest of the bar to the jeep frame, while you drill. Start off with a pilot
hole first then drill it out, taking your time. Easy install for anyone with basic hand tool
knowledge.

Both tabs should be perfectly level when the mount is level with frame of vehicle.Spare Blueox tow bar pins will not fit sockets. I bought this new but when I received it it was obvious it had been opened and repacked. Parts were just thrown in in no order. I am missing parts, all the bolts. I had to install right away so I ended up going to Lowe’s and getting the bolts for it. The baseplate was bent on one end so I had to bend it back and repaint it where it chipped. Overall when you buy a new product it should be new packed correctly and have all the parts. Shame.

If you’re moderately handy with tools and have 8 or 10 hours, this is fairly straightforward to install. I didn’t try and rush thru the job, just took my time I didn’t need a second set of hands. The jeep is a pretty easily accessed. If your toolbox consists only of a prepackaged bag you buy from a big box store, you will be making a couple trips to the hardware store to get various sockets etc. to get things on and off, but if you have a reasonable set of tools you should have no problem. Expect to spend a Saturday doing the install. I’m glad I did it myself because it saved me the hassle of going back-and-forth to the RV dealer, saved me some money, and there’s the satisfaction of doing a job yourself. There is peace of mind when you do the install yourself knowing it was done right and knowing exactly how everything works. This base plate is a knock off but looks exactly like the blue ox one, it is very robust. The box I got had all of the necessary hardware to do the job. After installing it I see why it is much better to do a full base plate then try and do a cheap install on the fender of the jeep alone with less robust hardware. If you decide to do the wiring yourself, The wiring is similar with the prepackaged kits available, you just have to take your time to locate the components and rout the wires. The jeep is really easy to work on if you just take a little bit of time and planning. I saved about $1500 of install costs by doing it myself on a Saturday. There’s no quick way to do it so you can either use your own time if you enjoy these types of projects and the satisfaction of doing it yourself, or pay a technician for 8 to 10 hours of shop time (which I think is a reasonable estimate) that most RV shops charge to do a base plate and wiring install on a jeep. If you take your time it is straightforward and satisfying to make this look like it was a professional installation.
