You would think that bigger is better when it comes to antennas but this tiny antenna puts out a strong signal on GMRS. I’ve done tests and this antenna has the best signal out of all my NMO GMRS antennas. I have a Larsen 30” 5/8 over 5/8 colinear and this one works better. It’s so small you can hardly notice it on my car too. Very satisfied and my friend bought 3 on my recommendation and his work great too. I know because we talk to each other all the time with them. I have a Laird brand of the same style and there is no difference in performance.

I almost started laughing when I saw how small this antenna is when I opened the package. But, I must say this thing works. I replaced a ghost antenna I was using on my 4 door pickup with this antenna and I noticed a difference right away. SWR was very acceptable on the GMRS and the 440 Mhz ham frequencies, and with the excellent ground plane on my pickup roof it's performing very well. I usually run around locally, and I can hit all of my saved repeaters using 15 watts within a 25 to 30 mile radius. Not bad at all. Plus, it's only 6 inches tall so I can still pull in and out of the garage without removing the antenna. I am happy with my purchase and this little antenna.

I'm using this for GMRS and it's VSWR is dead flat like it should be. For most such NMO antennas one has to pay more money so this one is a good deal. What I don't know is if it's copper plated steel whip or not. A real good antenna will be, and maybe this one is, but I kind of doubt it for the price. I still recommend it unless you're going for really high efficiency.Oh, a word about 1/4 wave vs "gain" antennas. Long story short, those longer gain antenna almost always do NOT have the gain they advertise as in order to achieve that gain they need to be mounted on a LARGE metal ground plane like the roof of a sedan. Unless you're going to do just that, go with a 1/4 wave and you'll be better off in the end even on the cosmetic front.

Besides its low profile, I liked the fact that in my install conditions, this antenna showed an SWR of 1.01:1 across the entire GMRS band from 462-467 MHz.However, this antenna won't break any records in transmission and reception. It is just OK.That having been said, if you are using a direct conversion radio, a shorter antenna might be beneficial to reduce front end overload in urban areas.

This was tuned perfectly and the coating on it makes it look nice, and it holds up in the weather well.

I am getting 1:1 SWR with this antenna using an NMO mount installed through the center of the roof of my SUV. The reviews getting high SWR probably don't have a decent ground plane.

This is very poorly tuned- I only bought it because it was "pre-tuned" and I didn't have an SWR Meter at the time. I wondered all these months why it seemed to have the same range as the tiny radome unity gain SMA antennas that go directly on an HT, and it turns out it's because the SWR is ~3.1 on GMRS frequencies. It works GREAT at 430 MHZ, with a sub 1.5 SWR, but at 462-467 it is borderline unusable. The max effective range after testing was only about 1 mile even on a 50 watt transceiver. I would not buy if yo.u are looking for a GMRS antenna. Then again, maybe my product was defective, however even though this was a prime item it is not eligible for product support for some reason.

The specs on the sales page claim 410-490MHz, but the package I received states 434-477 MHz.For those wondering, the package also says, "Tuned center frequency 460 MHz."

I bought this to put on top of my truck to allow me to clear trees, car washes, drive through food places. I got tired of have to take the longer 5/8 over 5/8 antenna off all the time. So far in a week of range testing, it is a talker! I can easily hit repeaters 60 to 70 miles away, feed back from the club is loud and clear. I do think my RX receive has gone down a bit in long distance or hilly locations and downtown around large buildings, but that is to be expected with the unity zero gain and size. It's a great bang for the buck!
