The idea behind this product piqued my interest. I wondered how it would compare to some of the popular (and free) online translation programs for your phone. The earbuds are sold as 'translation' earbuds, but once you get the the package you realize they are just regular BT earbuds that are used with an app called VTrans. You could use any BT earbuds with this app and achieve much the same result although the app is somewhat optimized for the app. There are several different modes, like speaking face to face with back and forth translation, listening to a dialogue, video calls, and photo legend translation. Not all of these are free with the purchase of these buds. What is free to use without additional cost is the face to face translation and listening to a dialogue. This is only available while you have data services unless you pay a yearly fee for offline translation capability. The cost is listed only in Chinese and appears to be around $7 at this time but I am not sure if this is correct. It is unclear if this is per language or a fixed fee for all the available ones. You have to have this option to do translation with no data service. There is apparently separate fees for the photo translation (for text) and the video call translation. The instructions in the app and in the almost nonexistent included instruction sheet are somewhat vague and minimal. With a little effort, a normal techie type can get up and rolling in the face to face translation. At this level, it is really not much different than the other phone translation apps available on android or IOS, but those require data services also. If VTran offline mode works as well as the online, then this would make it stand out above the others. I have not tried to buy that package yet as it appears to be directly to a foreign country in a different currency and I will do some more research first. The lower rating is based mainly on the lack of documentation and optional undisclosed fees. Bottom line:1. Earbuds: They sound surprisingly good for voice and music. Bass is quite good on music. They function like most BT earbuds with touch controls and work for calls or music when not using the app. Fit is comfortable and they feel quite solid. I don't see any way to tailor the audio response or toggle ANR for these like others in this price range.2. VTran app: It works about like other online translators I have used. Integration with your BT headset is probably a little better. Again, this app will work with other headsets, so these particular earbuds are not absolutely required. The instruction, both written, and in the app need to be expanded and clarified. Additional charges for features need to be clearly shown in the currency of the market they are used in and how they are collected. Where this may really shine is IF the offline operation is as good as the online operation. I don't know at this point.
