Ordered this oversize intentionally. Use this to brush out 2 1/2 inch diameter wood boiler heat exchanger tubes. Product description stated that 2 1/2 brush is 2 1/4 inch nominal size. That would not clean tubes effectively. I wanted a brush that was slightly bigger than 2 1/2 inch diameter to get the best clean. The 3 inch brush I ordered was listed at 2 3/4 inch nominal. It is flexible enough to force it through the 2 1/2 inch heat exchanger tubes. This takes considerable force, but does a better job cleaning the creosote out of the tubes this way. Works exactly as I expected. *Note: you have to force the brush completely through the tubes and out through the other end so the bristles are able to flex the other way, otherwise you will not be able to pull the brush back out.
