Simple looking, but when I got them on, felt a little uneasy. Once I got around to using them, it was way more comfortable than I thought. Once you get the hang of putting them on and taking them off, and using them a few times, it becomes like second nature, like putting on shoes. The quality is rough and tumble, so rugged. Must have if you want to try climbing trees. Overall, an above average offering for the value, though for newbies I would suggest taking it slow at first. This review is for the “Rohseson Tree Climbing Spikes, Upgraded Tree Climbing Gear with 45# Steel Forging, Height Adjustable Tree Climbing Tool Set with Cowhide Leather, for Logging, Tree surgen, Hunting”.

Seems like a solid set of spurs to me. I never done proper tree climbing before but wanted to learn (well other than the times I was a kid and was indestructible). I have 32 acres of property and plenty of trees around the house I need to prune and cut up on the yearly. I don't care much for having to climb these monstrous trees with a ladder or sitting in the bucket of my farm tractors front loader to delimb trees. So, I thought these would be a good investment.I checked out some of the lower-rated reviews and I can't say I completely agree with those guys (especially where one of them thought the ankle straps were waist belts and another who was wearing slippers while ruining his pine trees). The spikes are sufficiently long enough for stabbing into a tree and are very sharp! I have gone up and down a couple of trees now (while using my harness, belt and lanyards) and have had no issues. I actually had a lot of fun! Keep in mind, I am a thrill seeker at heart and I did practice for a few hours first before attempting this. After several hours of wearing in the leather strappings around my legs and boots, I have come to stretching it out enough that it contours quite nicely. Fits like a glove now! (Speaking of gloves, those gloves they provided are about as useless as the "foot belts"/shoelaces they provided, which is why I dropped a star.) I get it though, those "foot belts" are meant to be a back-up in case the strapping breaks but come on, there are better options out there. 🙄Anyways, I like this set up and it works for me! Now I just need to find a small, lightweight chainsaw to take up with me for next time.Thank you for reading my review! 🙏

For a first time climber I have to say I loved these climbers. I have zero experience and was able to get these strapped on, fitted, and climb with no issues. It took me a little bit of getting use to of course, between how to get the spikes dug into the tree, plus just learning the motion overall. But I have to say if I can do it as a first time climber, another first time or experienced climber it will be a breeze. When climbing and attempting to climb I found the climbers to be pretty comfortable, they were obviously noticeable, that they were there. They were tight, but nothing dug into my skin or left any markings nor was it painful. Just a very snug and tight fit around my shin and calf. When climbing once I learnt how to get the spike in, it was like butter. It just slipped right in with medium pressure, and once apply the pressure on my heel locked into the tree. Each step I felt very secure, and at no point as a beginner even did these slide out from where I had them placed into.Personally I can recommend them, they've become very handy and I have picked them over my ladder each and every time since using them. As they feel a lot more secure, and candidly are a lot more fun.

I picked up these tree climbing spikes to start managing some of the dead trees on my property. Having the ability to top off trees before falling them is beneficial. I figured these would be a good way to get up there without ladders and such. In this set you get a pair of nice-looking spikes, a waist strap, a pair of gloves, 2 bundles of strapping and some very basic instructions. The spikes themselves have a steel core structure that is painted gloss black and look very robust and the tip very sharp and pointy. The structure is in two pieces and can be lengthened or shortened to fit your leg by removing the two affixing bolts and moving the upper portion to a different set of holes. The black steel is contrasted by the orange leather straps and pauldrons that are used to attach the spikes to your leg. The straps employ steel buckles that are riveted into the straps and seem to be very strong. One strap goes around your calf while the other around your ankle. The attachments seem fairly robust but do not do a great job of holding the spike tightly on the leg. That’s where the bundles of strapping come in apparently. Per the instructions, after attaching the spike to your leg with the buckles you are supposed to use a bundle of strapping and wrap it around your foot and the spike several times and then just tying it off. This seems very odd to me and frankly a little insufficient. It also suggests to me that the core design of the straps and buckles is insufficient for retention of the spikes on your legs, which is concerning. The belt in the kit seems rather thin and far too small to use in any meaningful way other than maybe holding your pants up. A proper harness and adequately rated rope or strap is needed if you plan to attempt using these spikes for climbing, which I am not.Like the belt the gloves are completely the wrong style for climbing. They are simple cotton gloves with textured palms. They have no retention and are loose fitting so you would not be able to grip anything well enough while climbing.Overall, the concept of these climbing spikes seems good and at first glance they look great. However, the structure is under designed, and the accessories included are insufficient for the job they are intended. Since using devices like this puts your life on the line be sure to do your homework and purchase accordingly.

I wish I could feel 100% comfortable with this set. I have an older set of Klein spurs that were set up for pole climbing, and I was looking to get longer gaffs. I thought these came with the longer tree gaffs. With this set about the same price as the gaffs alone, I decided to try them.Overall, the quality is fair. The leather is mediocre quality, and there’s not a lot of padding. I’m not impressed with the forging quality of the metal support either. The gaffs are more similar in style to pole climbing spurs rather than tree climbing, which is particularly important for me since we have a lot of Eastern White Pine and Scots Pine, both of which have significant bark thickness near the base. I certainly wouldn’t use these without being tied in, even at low heights.Another point that doesn’t inspire confidence is the instructions, which suggest tying what resembles a wide shoelace around your ankle and foot for extra safety. Compared with my old Kleins, these do not come close. Although they suggest a weight capacity of 260 pounds, I would recommend using them with a maximum weight of only 60% to 70% of that limit. I weigh about 170 pounds, and while they felt okay in terms of support, I still have reservations.Given the safety nature of this product and my lack of complete confidence in the materials and construction, I suggest passing on these.
