Replaced a proprietary media converter for a Sirona panoramic xray machine and it works brilliantly… much more reliable than the original - overpriced - nonsense they force you to buy.

In my old unit, I had a Broadcom Avago AFBR-5803Z which is 1270-1380 nm. I picked this because it is 1300nm 100Base-TX to 100Base-FX Multi Mode SC. I don't know much about fiber. The above is just from my research and the Avago datasheet. Since they matched, I tried it and it actually worked as before. I have an xray machine made by Sirona and the part number 6029040 Media converter. If replacing existing part, things to look for, I believe, is the type of connectors, the Center Wavelength in nm (FX or SX diod), the power voltage eg. 5vDC, IEEE standard and the base rate.

We used this converter to replace an old switch that was dying that had a fiber card in it. We were using a 10/100 HP ProCurve Switch 4000m. After swapping the switch with this device, the traffic restored seamlessly without any need for resetting any other devices. We had some concerns because of some of the other comments, so we did a few tests to the device to see how it effected the converter. We ran a continues ping and unplugged our switch, plugged it back in and connection was restored. We also unplugged the fiber cables to break the connection, and after plugging them back in the connection was restored. Finally, we unplugged the converter, and after plugging it back in, again, the connection was immediately restored. We also ran a ping overnight to test for any dropped packets, none were reported. In conclusion, this seems to be a very good and reliable product, and the price is really good compared to other options out there.

A pair of these were purchased for an office test for an industrial control system. These are fast enough to handle a 5ms scan rate on a PLC. While designed for home or office use, we have not had an issue in an electrically noisy and hot production area but I would not recommend these for industrial use.

I have used this little guy a bunch of times and it is a great value. Works as it should and I have had one in a production environment for a few years 24/7/365 with zero problems. Way cheaper than a switch with GBIC ports. If you just need a point to point. I keep them on hand because they work so well.

Straight out of the box, installed it on the wall next to the router plugged it in and it worked like a charm. the only down side is that it requires a few minutes before data actually begins to be transmitted over the fiber cable.

Fertig.Kurz: Gerät funktioniert im Dauerbetrieb ohne Probleme. 5 Sterne.

Fiber optics have always felt like something from some distant future, but the reality is this stuff is cheap and can run over huge distances. We use these devices at a couple of warehouses to extend a network from one end of the building to the other. These boxes are cheap and flawless. Plug it in, hook up the fiber cables (just choose the right connector based on your installation), and plug it in.Connect the ethernet to a switch or hub and you're connected. Simple as that. Almost feels too easy. Keep in mind that you need a pair to make this work. Each end needs its own box. These are maxed out at 100 megabits. If you need faster speeds your cabling might work but you'll need a faster connection device.
