I just replaced this on my 2016 4Runner. Car will recognize N, P, R, but not when it is in drive. I did a ton of research before installing this to make sure I did everything correctly. I am not a mechanic, but I know my way around a car. My uncle is a certified Toyota mechanic and he coached me every step of the way via FaceTime. The part is bad.
