The item installed easily once you hammer back the firewall to accommodate it. I had to hammer back the firewall about 3/4" in spots. This was not an easy task. Also the original dist. had the vacuum advance positioned towards the rear, this is no longer possible so to make things work you need to re-position all the plug wires relative to no. 1 firing and the rotor position - again - not easy. After all that when I went to install the air cleaner the larger new dist. keeps the air cleaner about 1/2" from seating. I will eventually be able to resolve this as I'm adding a 1" carb spacer to the carb base. The bottom line is the engine has NEVER run as good as it does now. It always had trouble starting once hot but no more - easily starts right up at any time. I've very happy with the way it works. Also the pigtail for connection has no instructions - my guess was to use the red wire as the 'hot' which is correct. It would be nice if they told you which one to apply power to - it's the red one. This is a must have for anyone out there with a 318 V8.

I originally gave a good review on this product,It made truck run good originally but 5 hrs on the truck meter, bam, engine died, tested everything with multimeter and coil tested to be bad, so I put this brand andu type on the. Black list, bought a mopar distributor and installed it, 300 miles bam coil tested bad, keep in mind the wiring to the product is correct and checked with multi meter. Black listed also. Went to junk pile at my shop and dug a 1981 electronic oem distributor rebuilt it and bought a coil good for 400hp 7000 miles and know issues. Also installed medium weight springs from Mr. Gasket off Amazon. Research showed that all coils bought by customers and I were China made and didn't hold true to their specs. I personally hate this because I really liked their products but have to keep buying same things over and over.

The quality (so far) of this product is remarkable for the price, the delivery was fast and packaged well. Few instructions on how to replace a distributor other than an existing HEI. The average person can install this in just a few minutes.

Great product. Installed with no modifications to the firewall. Get prebuilt wires for a Chevy with a 454 so it has straight ends on the plug side.
