Photoelectric Switch control by infraredray, as a apporach sensor, includeing a transmitter and receiver in it. A retroreflective arrangement places the transmitter and receiver at the same location and uses a reflector to bounce the light beam back from the transmitter to the receiver. An object is sensed when the beam is interrupted and fails to reach the receiver.

After spending (wasting) a few hours trying to get this 3 wire sensor to work, I finally came to the conclusion it was faulty. Also, the plastic lenses were (are) scratched, perhaps it was a return from another customer(?). Ending up purchasing a 5 wire sensor as a replacement (and it works).
