Ulanzi generally makes pretty solid products, and this one fits that bill. The material is strong, and the design is well thought out. The auto-inflate function is pretty great, and it fills the light in about 10 seconds. The handle is a bit bulky, but it also functions as a home for the remote control, a rotating clamp, and power adapter. The light has two strips of velcro along both sides for mounting to the metal clamp, but can also be used to mount to other holders. Being incredibly light, the extra mounting options open up a lot of creative options for tight spaces. The amount of light is about what you'd expect for 60 watts through diffusion, and the overall surface area is roughly 12x20, making for a moderate sized light source. It's not quite big enough for a soft wrap around on a face, but close enough in a pinch. Their app is really straight-forward and does everything you'd like it to do. No light is perfect for every situation, so there are some caveats and considerations with the AL60. In deflated form it's about the size of other traditional COB LED lights (though much lighter); in some ways it doesn't save that much on space alone, though you don't necessarily need another modifier for soft light. The clamp and power cord (from the handle to the light) are unique, so there's no swapping out parts with your other lights-- you need to bring everything and they only work with this light. The metal clamp is also a bit bulky. The inflatable design offers very little control over the shape of the light. It largely goes where it goes, though you could use the velcro strips to attach skirts for an overhead setup. That is one of its best use cases, along with general ambience or a very tight headshot. I am fond of the inflatable format, and look forward to more innovation along these lines from Ulanzi.

This inflatable light is a game changer if you’re looking to save time on setup and some space. Compared to using a light with a softbox, you’re using so much less space, and the setup time is relatively quick. For setup, all you do is inflate the light and mount none of the spokes or additional cages to set that you have with a softbox. I found this light useful with small product photography, and portraits. With the faster setup time, I’m generally grabbing this light more often for my quick, smaller setups.Although this is a pretty cool light, I did have some hiccups. My first issue is that the USB-C cable used to power this is short, so I had to pull my power brick closer to the light or use a separate USB-C cable that would fit. Next, the power brick that needs to be used is 65W, so I’m not able to use the random small power bricks that I have, but I had to use my laptop brick. Lastly, the dial controls were initially confusing and may take a bit to get used to. Even with these minor inconveniences, I still like using this light for the quick setup and breakdowns, and it’s good for most of the small projects I do.
