The stainless steel cup has a large round base. It was shipped in an envelope instead of a box. The envelope was torn during shipping and the cup was lost. The empty envelope was delivered around 5PM. I immediately called the manufacturer. I live in Eastern time zone. The manufacturer is in the pacific zone. He shipped a replacement that day!!! That's excellent customer service!!BTW... The cup is definitely well made and heavy duty.

I have always pulled my syrup off the stove when it hit 219*, but it was always too thin. The hydrometer was far more accurate, and now I have thick, syrupy syrup!
